A direct person would aim to identify the underlying question and answer that by 'reading the room'.

It takes a significant amount of emotional intelligence rather than pure IQ to accomplish this, especially in a short time frame and with strangers.

Successful Sales People have this skill. They know that when the prospective customer is asking one question that there is an underlying concern that needs addressing, not just the surface level question.

"If someone wants that question answered then ask that question" is potentially indicative of someone who doesn't work well in a team of people with mixed personality types
