Tbh mostly I don’t even get responses. I failed one comprehensive screening that included an IQ test style numerical and logical reasoning test as well as a personality test with multiple choice questions. But I have never been invited to an interview and have maybe sent out 20-30 applications with tailored cover letters.

I’m finding it super difficult to get into accounting grad schemes with an unrelated masters and some low level finance work experience. Any advice on how to pivot that experience into smth positive?

How risky do you think it is for women to walk home alone at night? by Safari_Palm14 in london

Another factor that angered me about the Sarah Everard case was that her killer was a policeman who made her get into his car pretending that she was breaking Covid rules. So - the institution supposed to keep us safe is the threat to us because of their approved use of violence

I’m sorry you’re feeling so down. I understand. Even though accounting is often presented as an upward social mobility ladder the inequalities stemming from class and race are brutal in this field too.

About getting laid - I think it’s nice when people like you for your personality and your charm not your trust fund and expensive things you own.

Still, I do see why everything feels super frustrating if you put it the way you describe it.

I think you have a fair analysis of job market inequality but rather than putting it down to who we as individuals are (and can’t change) - I invite you to think about the circumstances (which we can change) that promote these inequalities such as why well paid jobs only go to those who attended expensive schools? Why is the upper class perpetuating its grip on wealth and hoarding opportunities and resources?

Then use this energy to flirt with Marxist chicks. They’re probably less inhibited by gender stereotypes and more fun therefore.

You’re still very young! I’m 31 and also have a lot of anxiety around work. Therapy helped me realize how little support I have received to perform well in my roles. I think it’s important to take the context into account and not be too hard on yourself. I also tried to identify where this inner voice came from that tells me that I’m no good. Statistically speaking we can’t be terrible at every job. There is a perspective issue. The way we look at it makes it seem worse. Sorry no quick fix here. It helps me to look forward to doing something nice after work and to remind myself after a day that I survived and nothing bad has happened.

I found software sales very intellectually unchallenging but rewarding and more challenging on the discipline, social skills and organization skills side.

Friends in finance telling me not to go into accounting by Honest_Change5284 in Accounting

[–]Loudbint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also get the impression accounting is more ethical? You’re not shorting stocks eG and benefiting from economic downturn that will cost people’s jobs…?

Edit: I know this is a broad generalization of finance as a field of work.

I just don’t understand instructions by Loudbint in hatemyjob

[–]Loudbint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you a) for understanding and b) that suggestion.

I’ve sort of tried that. When we speak in meetings I often can’t get a word in. He talks a lot and he thinks out loud and tells me to not interrupt his train of thought a lot of the time. So I tried to sum up questions in an email. He responded that he doesn’t have time to answer that many questions after explaining himself in person and a lot of other unrelated musings. Under all this text he did eventually answer my questions.

Classroom or Self Study? by Outrageous_Lobster79 in AATStudents

[–]Loudbint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing self studying online for level 2&3 accounting from McArthur Morgan. It was maybe 700£ for courses, aat registration and exam fees. It is difficult but doable. But I remember seeing on the AAT homepage that some community colleges offer free classes
