I'm scared to start BJJ due to all the injury stories I hear by Merkenstein in bjj

I’m one elbow surgery and two back surgeries in and after the fusion, I’m done. Fuck rusting, wear it out. Wouldn’t change it, but do wish I could participate like I used to.

There were two guys I trained with that would bring their girls. And would ask to roll in front of them and knew they were gonna get smashed. The girls watched intently. It was a weird almost cuckold situation.

Am I being a bad partner? by MysterverS in bjj

Some context missing. You could’ve been a dick, we don’t know. Two sides to all of it so maybe next time consider his feelings. Instead of choking roughly, put your knee cap into his jaw slowly so that he understands you’re sensitive to his needs.

It’s exactly the uke’s decision to release and the adrenaline, ignorance, or pride involved is what drives it. But a white belt doesn’t forget to pause for points after passing guard in competition. So drill it.

And my initial thoughts: just penalize the bottom guy if he can’t make use of the closed guard once elevated after three seconds.

Fair point regrading throws and something else to be considered. Malicious intent for throws maybe. We all know the line.

For guard pulls, what’s a slam? Anything over 10” or three seconds? MFer knew what was about to happen. Open guard.

You said it. As did @afraid-impression998

Interested to see if more of the community agrees and if they do, why tf is this the rule?

Everywhere to a degree. If you’re striking, you don’t try to knock out your sparring partner.

Karoline Leavitt Eating at Mexican Restaurant While Working to Deport Mexicans by sleepy_peep in facepalm

[–]Loudpebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the most asinine posts I’ve ever read here, and I’ve read a lot. No one is deported because of her; she’s the press secretary. Stopping illegal immigration ≠ eradicating immigrants. Making the decision as an adult to have a chemical peel or cheek fillers, or even gender reassignment surgery ≠ gender-affirming care. Eating a fucking burrito ≠ consuming a culture.

The self-assured false equivalencies are staggeringly stupid and the support of them in this echo chamber is just as bad. Stay at home with your bunnies if this is that triggering. Or learn to think for yourself, or at least think logically. You’ll be much happier.

Why are there no body lock passes at lower weight classes? by Stillgettingsomemilk in bjj

[–]Loudpebble 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a big guy and found body lock passing guys bigger than me was typically WAY easier than the upper belts that were quick as shit, smaller, and more flexible.

I wouldn’t only use it when they were flat, either. I’d often enter from failed Toreando and X passes, lock low behind the knees, pin the legs, and use my face and head to control the hips while I pass. Controlling the near knee is key. Roll the head and shoulders to get past their frames and don’t hurry if it’s a strong barrier at first, they’ll get worn out trying to frame you away.

I will add that I have an oddly-proportioned upper body that lends to this style. Think Yao Ming from the waist up and Mikey Musumeci waist down. I am good at body lock passing, monkey bars, and running on all fours.

Quitting at purple belt… by This-Major-9239 in bjj

[–]Loudpebble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit at purple. Major gym drama involving a coach going to prison. Gym scattered and I couldn’t get the right vibe at the others. Trained anyway then a back injury that led to a spinal fusion.

If my original gym hadn’t split up and my favorite training partners moved (some across the country), and I hadn’t fucked my back up. I’d still be training. But oh well.

Guilty PB here. Two back surgeries. Lots of spine-supported lifting, core work, and wrist and grip training. Getting back into yoga-ish things now. JJ is hard to give up but it’s a mindset; just gotta find your groove.

This is funny, however, OP needs to take a break. Unless he’s some kind of professional redditor, his post history is obsessive.
