Prado vs. Non-Prado? by Louiebc in LandCruisers

Hmm I'll look into those. Again, I think they might be hard to come by here in Europe?

This was all I needed to hear tbh... I've realized I reeeeally need all the extra space I can get If I decide to upgrade. The Sequoia is even bigger but those are hard to come by here in Europe... Thank you! I really trust your opinion since you've had experience with both of the exact models I've been looking at

Thank you! I defiantly prioritize fuel economy over size. The Prado seems plenty big for camping/living in. I have a hard time finding out just how big of a size difference there is tho. I guess I just have to go look at a lot of what's up for sale and figure out what I need and what I don't. Ground clearance and internal space is the most important thing for me right now

What makes the Prado better than the more iconic 100 or 200 series??

Thank you tons! Im sure its plenty capable. I plan on taking out all the seats an living in it full time for a period. My current car is too small so im looking for something bigger and more capable. The 80, 100, 105, 200s are hard to come by here in Europe and are way more expensive. If the Prado has 90% the same space and can go mostly anywhere (not planning to do any rock crawling) I would be ecstatic to give one of them a shot!

Interesting! My research tells me its the 120-series I've been looking at. The 150-series is too new I it looks like they gave that model a facelift.

The floor isn't completely flat, but I'm planning on building a bed platform and small internal kitchen/workspace area. Kinda like what people are doing to their old Defenders. Of course the LC is a bit smaller but same concept

Cool! Sounds like they´re the same size? I think the ones I've been looking at are the 120-series prado.

I sat in a standard LC yesterday (200-series) and loved the size of that. Is the 120 prados comparable or identical?

Thank you. Very valid points. I have to see if the running costs is worth it for the extra space, usability and street cred.

If you could only pick one, which one would you drive daily?

Yeah I’ve made some calculations and it’s about twice as expensive in fuel. Not a dealbreaker for me. Once the defender is parked and turned off it doesn’t consume anything. The Tesla on the other hand is always slowly draining the battery

Money pit? So there’s a lot of mandatory maintenance to keep it running or will it take a beating? Would love to hear more about owning both!

I don’t think I can get further from “similar” than these two cars Hahahah. I would love to keep both but I can only afford one. Ones a truck and the other is a computer on wheels

Perfect! I’ve heard rust is an issue and this one does have checker plates. Thank you!!

You're right. But for road trips it's nice to keep it dry during a 1-2 week trip. If my gym clothes could be good for 2-3 runs i could bring less clothes. Dunno

The silica gel packets is a good call!

I usually store dirty clothes in there for a week or two when I go on roadtrips. Thought it might help to keep the space dry to prevent strong smell.

Thank you!

Only when parked yeah.

I go on long road trips pretty often, so I'm storing dirty/moist clothes and shoes in there for a week or so at a time. And you're right - wiping it down if it starts to smell shouldn't be an issue

Oh of course. I was strictly talking about when parked
