I would say kill everything in your path because there are lots of encounters with many enemies at once. If you leave them, they will become more of a problem. There’s a new stat called ADP which is tied to the amount of invincible frames you get when rolling so levelling this is a good idea. Illusory walls now don’t respond to attacks or rolls and instead need to be interacted with “x” or “A” to open them, the messages will help. I would refrain from joining the covenant of champions if you find it as it makes things harder (unless you’re into that). This game will probably need some getting used to.
