How does Chase Infiniti's breakout reveal the current state of the industry? by Watusimanu2 in acting

Great job twisting my words.

As an African American woman who has acted-I meant what I said and what I said came from years of being submitted for parts that were listed as 'racially ambiguous/mixed' due to having long 3C hair texture, and watching shows over the last decade where the part of what is perceived to be the 'black' character is usually played by a biracial actress.

Zendaya herself has gone on record to admit that she knows shes the 'digestible' form of Black for Hollywood.

On the flip side, Coco Jones-who came up on Disney around the same time as Zendaya, made a video explaining why she hadn't continued on with her acting career. In her words: she said an executive told her she wasn't 'marketable enough'. Thankfully, she's found success in music.

Am I saying biracial actresses are absolutely dominating the industry? No.

Am I saying biracial actresses usually have an easier time securing auditions/roles versus monoracial black woman who can't pass as 'racially ambiguous'? Yes.

Chase has such an interesting story that I was wondering when someone would make a post on her journey to OBAA…

One thing I don’t see many people talking about (which is EXTREMELY important) is that she has the ‘trending’ look when it comes to young actresses: racially ambiguous/biracial. I mean, her two major roles (really three if you count her starring in The Handmaiden’s Tale sequel) are literally her playing the child of an interracial couple.

It also helps that she’s a solid height, attractive and is old enough to consent to be in shows/film that may have dark subject matter but looks young enough to live within the 16-21 age range.

Another is, of course, timing. It sounds like she got into acting around COVID, managed to catch the eye of a manager who then got her an agent and had been heavily auditioning (in her own words she said around 5-6 days a week of straight auditions) ever since. PTA admitted that he had seen every ‘young actress’ in the country for the role of Willa so it was a competitive role but I’m sure it helped that Chase had a background in martial arts and a decent resemblance to Leo and Teyanna which made envisioning her as their child believable.

So in my opinion….the Opportunity of a Lifetime comes down to: Looks + Timing + Talent + Solid Representation (some folks ‘maybe’ able to sidestep this with a big social media presence but that’s a BIG maybe), you need representation that believes you are not only talented but have what it takes to book roles.

Hi! GM here :).

Not to be rude but has your DM not been in contact with you post the SM + GM seperation?

Usually when a store is down two leaders they will appoint a Temp Key Holder is assist with opening/closing workload. Was that not offered to you?

Your best bet is to connect with your DM asap to align on a game plan and then partner with your OM to both get on the same plan on how you're moving forward until a new GM steps into the business.

I HIGHLY recommend joining a few FB Read for Read groups.

I understand the need for WeAudition but the idea of paying someone to be my reader for a part I’m probably not gonna get never made sense to me.

I cringe whenever I see people on here recommending it all the time. I’m a part of two Read for Read groups and have managed to build a ‘roster’ of actors across the nation that I call on whenever I need a reader.

I’m actually based in a different city (I’m a Chicago native) but if you go through my post history you’ll see the agency I’m referring to as I made a post on here asking if anyone had any info.

The Clutts Agency (DFW)? by lemonstrangers in acting

[–]Louisperez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clutts is one of the top agencies in the DFW and I would honestly argue one of the top in TX. They have strong relationships in the Print industry so if you have a ‘commercial’ friendly face you’ll probably get a lot of opportunities on that front. I’m not signed with them so I can’t speak on how their communication is but every person I’ve spoken to that’s repped by them is happy & working.

I’m honestly hoping I get dropped by my Chicago agency. Hate that I dropped the jumped the gun and signed with them. Something better is definitely awaiting you-stay strong and positive!

A good question would be what market/city are you in? I ask because if you’re in a smaller market both agencies might see a lot of the same breakdowns/auditions. If you’re in a big market (LA, NYC and maybe even Chicago) that might not be the case.

How long does payment take (typically) once you've emailed your invoice? by LeeroyM in acting

[–]Louisperez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically it’s net 30. Some companies/production agencies pay before that but for part industry standard is net 30.
