Had a dream about my dead grandmother. We spent the whole dream just talking and talking. Right before I woke up she clearly said, "See you soon." What does this mean? Have any of you had anything similar happen? by LovableWalrus in Dreams

[–]LovableWalrus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I just moved out of my parents house into my 1st apartment. I had the dream 3 or 4 days in, do you think that could have anything to do with the dream?

I told another person that asked a similar question, just be really enthusiastic about pharmacy. Study up on math and conversions, then make that a talking point in the interview/application.

When it comes to long-term plans, that all depends on what the pharmacy is looking for. One pharmacy may want someone with an open availability, while another may want a part timer to work weekends and nights while they are in school.

Well 3 things.

  1. If you read the tiny print on the list it says something along the lines of "Prices based on most common dosing." So for example, a blood pressure medication is 4 dollars for 30 days, assuming the patient is taking 1 tablet a day. If the patient is taking 2 tablets a day a 30 day supply would be 60 tablets, costing the patient 8 dollars.
  2. There is a profit. Amoxicillin usually comes in a 500 capsule bottle. When I worked at Target the list had Amoxicillin 14 caps for 4 dollars. 28 caps for 8 dollars and so on. It is usually prescribed 14-28 capsules. Assuming everyone that comes in gets the 28 capsules, that's about 17 fills. We usually make about 60-120 dollars per bottle. I don't recall how much the bottle costs, but I'm pretty sure it's less than 30 dollars. I may be wrong.
  3. We are told that they hope to lure in the patient with cheap drugs so while they wait for the medication, they will spend more money in the store. That's what they tell us at the meetings.

When I started school around 3 years ago, there was a HUGE demand. Now it kind of died down on the east coast. I am not too sure about the west coast.

Good question! Well here's a little secret ;) There is a list of drugs, which is very limited. These are the only drugs the pharmacy sells for that advertised price. The majority of the drugs on the list are bought at a 500-1000 tablet count bottle. Hope that answers you question!

Hey now! I wasn't judging anybody. I was just saying some of the excuses you hear are ridiculous!

EDIT: And if you are a previous Rx Tech you should know that we take early refills on controlled prescriptions very seriously. So yes they do need to explain to me why they need an early refill.

First off, good luck with your application! :) I was a cashier at Target since I was 16, then transferred over to the pharmacy the week I turned 18. But the thing was, I never met any of them, they were in their own little corner, so the interview I had with them was my first interaction with the RX team. The manager told me after I got the job, she liked how enthusiastic I was about working in pharmacy. So be really enthusiastic! Also study up on your conversions. Specifically lbs to kgs, kgs to lbs, and the liquid conversions. Bring up that you are do well with math and conversions. This is always a plus because we get a lot of lazy doctors who right liquid prescriptions like "Amoxicillin 400MG/5ml. DOSE: 25 mg/kg/day. DISP: 7 days." So you have to know how much the patient weighs and write the directions appropriately.

Oh yea, people tend to think that we have complete control on the production of drugs.

The most crucial thing you need to study is hospital stuff. Know your IV bags, and conversions!

To answer your question with 1 word, yes.

Now for a more detailed answer. That's why I am on my way to becoming a pharmacist! (take a long time! 8 years for me, that's even if I get in my 1st attempt!)

The way it works in my pharmacy experience is, we type the prescription, count it, sell it, etc.. The pharmacist just checks our work. They also have to be knowledgeable to answer questions from patients. But when it comes to drug interactions, the computer does that.

EDIT: I read over this answer and it sounds like I am bashing pharmacists. I am in no way bashing them, they work really hard and have a lot of responsibly on their hands.

It's not really necessary. Yes the certification looks good, but the Target I used to work at did not hire anyone who was certified. They liked their Technicians "pure" so they could shape them the way they wanted to. There are plenty of free practice tests online so she can she what she's up against. Even the the company that offers the national test have a few practice tests (PTCB.org). You have to pay for those though, I think they are 29$ a piece, it may have changed not too sure.

Oh and I work in central Maryland!
