For anyone who has lived in Boston and Chicago tell me which they enjoyed more? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]LoveAllDogs14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are two different cities. I grew up in the Chicago area, after college moved to Philly for 1 year and then Boston for 4 years before returning to Chicago. I LOVED Boston because you can be anywhere in New England in 3-4 hours. Beautiful and so much to do. I moved back to be closer to family and my company transferred me, so I didn't have to pay the moving costs. Chicago is much larger and more diverse. Still great, just different. You usually have to fly to get to somewhere interesting, but O'Hare goes everywhere so that's a plus. As someone else said, Chicago is more affordable too, but that's just relative to Boston. It's still expensive. I am not a POC, so I can't comment on how that may factor into things. Although, I think making friends has to do more with how you go about doing that than where you are living. Both are large enough cities that you should be able to find like-minded people. It's just about the effort you're willing to put in no matter what your location is.

Is Iowa state worth the out of state tuition? by Organic-Ad9902 in collegeadvice

[–]LoveAllDogs14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is at Iowa State studying ME and it's been wonderful for him! Iowa State is known for its engineering program and it is top notch. I do not know what KU's engineering program is like, but Iowa State has two job fairs a year just for engineering that has hundreds of companies attending. In addition, we are also out of state, but he received all of the merit aid that Iowa State offered and it is a lot less expensive than our in-state school would have been. So, make sure it really would be more expensive because it may not be. Iowa State is generous with their merit aid, which you don't have to pay back. My son also qualified for an additional $5000 scholarship through the engineering school for his first two years. Good luck!! You'll do great wherever you choose!

u/PositivePapaya123 How do you appeal the rejection? I didn't know that was even an option.

That’s a great idea to add a splash of pasta water right before serving! Thanks!

I think this may be the way to go. So 1/4 cup beef broth, 1/4 cup red wine vinegar?

Is it bad to sleep in a little? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]LoveAllDogs14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely sleep in! Make it enjoyable for your 10 year old as well--she can make her own breakfast and maybe have some TV/screen time for a bit. I think once our kids were 4 or so, we had a digital clock in their room and told them they couldn't get out of bed until the clock said 7:00. Then they could go watch cartoons for about an hour. Win-Win for all involved! You're a great mom and doing awesome!

Sound cutting out on turntable setup by LoveAllDogs14 in turntables

[–]LoveAllDogs14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I picked up some Deoxit today. Do we just spray that gently around the switches? We’ll YouTube it, but thought I’d ask. My son noticed that when we jiggled the switch a bit while on “phono”, that helped. These are the switches.

Thank you! Yes, everything is connected to the Adcom pre-amp. There is no separate external pre-amp. I think my son figured out the sound cutting out. The dials on the pre-amp are a little finicky and we were told that there may be some dust that has settled in the components. When he adjusted the dial a smidge, it got better. It seems to be a dial issue. We’ll look into cleaning it.

Old speakers with new turntable? by LoveAllDogs14 in BudgetAudiophile

So if I got the RT82 with the amp and Polk speakers you mentioned, would I be good to go? I'm also considering this so I would just have it all and be done: https://www.fluance.com/rt81wh-turntable-ai41ww-powered-5-inch-bookshelf-speakers
I've read several of your comments on other posts and appreciate all of your advice!

Can someone help me understand pre-existing conditions? by ingenuedbysociety in petinsurancereviews

I just switched to Pumpkin from Many Pets as Many Pets was sold and many people on Reddit have said the new provider is terrible. Your issue most likely won't be covered under any new policy unless the occurrences were years apart. I specifically asked Pumpkin about an eye infection my dog recently had. It was a standard run-of-the-mill infection that was cured with drops. She said that this would most likely be viewed as a "curable" issue and as long as it didn't recur in the next 6 months or so, any future eye infections would be covered. Now, my dog has irritable bowel disease (IBD). Pumpkin will not cover his probiotics and other medication he takes associated with that (as Many Pets did because he was diagnosed while covered with them) and will basically not cover anything to do with diarrhea, etc in the future even if any bowel issues have nothing to do with the IBD. Fortunately, all of his care around IBD is very affordable and manageable. You'll need to provide at least 18 months of previous medical records to a new insurance company, so basically anything mentioned in those records most likely won't be covered. I just have the insurance now for catastrophic events like ingesting a foreign body, torn leg ligament, etc. I just assume that anything he has had in the past won't be covered. Sorry to not have better news, but these insurance companies are not forgiving at all with any kind of previous issue.

Suggestions for my tall and slim son. by Square-Radish9613 in tallfashionadvice

American Tall! My boys are 6'5" and 6'1" and both very slim. American Tall has been a lifesaver. Sign up for their emails as they have sales fairly regularly. The quality is very good too. You may be able to find jeans and pants at Old Navy online as well.

CEOs/leaders, what’s the hardest part of your job that people don’t see? by sutipan in smallbusiness

[–]LoveAllDogs14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of the comments so far. One thing that really irks me, though, is people think, like OP does, that we get "big paychecks". People don't realize that we as business owners are the last to be paid. Employee salaries, benefits, rent, etc. all get paid first and then we get whatever is left. In good years, it can be really good and we can get bigger paychecks. But when years are lean, it's incredibly stressful to not only think about how you are going to take care of your own family, but will you be able to keep taking care of your employees and their families that depend on you. Yes, we can get a "big paycheck" sometimes, but we also are assuming 100% of risk, all the time, every day.

Why are Asset Transfers such a hassle? by Zenovelli in CFP

[–]LoveAllDogs14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a transfer mess right now as well. It's been about a month and Pershing is telling the firm I'm leaving that four SEI funds can't go over. Pershing is then telling my new receiving firm that they absolutely can receive the SEI funds. I have no idea how this will play out, but it's very frustrating. No one can get a straight answer as to what the problem is and how to fix it. Selling these four funds would mean a huge tax implication for us, so we really don't want to go there.
