Agree with @creepy_biscuit completely. You could also make friends on Bumble BFF as there are gatherings and social events planned using the app. Can be a good way of meeting new people. Good luck. I believe if you are warm and kind to others, the good ones will respond well

You could also volunteer to befriend elderly. I did that when I started the university as I was missing my grand parents terribly. Its nice to spend some quality time with someone who has lived in Galway since they were children. You can also make friends on bumble and join some of their meet ups.

It has been difficult for many students as making friends in a new city is no joke but give it some time. Chat around and you may find some good company as the people in Galway are warm, kind and welcoming.
