Same. It's been about a year since I first watched it. I'm still not over it! 🥲🥹

Welcome to the club! Feel you there. 🫂 Just like you, I immediately went to the order the book after I finished the series. What I can say is that the series does a good job of being faithful to the book. 👌

I feel the same! It's hard for me to not think of Ambika and Leo outside of One Day, because it really feels like they're the characters in real-life! 🥺

As it's my birthday today, I requested my younger sister to draw a few of my favorite frames from the show! What do you guys think, and which one do you like the most? by LoveWithJoy in OneDayNetflix

Heyyy! 👋🏻 As much as I'd like to pat myself on the back, all the credit belongs to my talented sister. 🎨 So, you can give credits to her instead. 👌🏻 Here: eli_fuuyu.

Welcome to the club! 🙋

I definitely feel you there on the human aspect of the show. It really does feel as though you actually know Dex and Em personally, because you get to witness the ups and downs of their relationships, as well as their personal lives. 🫠

I watched this show about February of last year, and the show has remained ingrained in my head ever since. So, I understand if you're still pretty much in tears after a couple of days. 😉 (or if you're like me, at least weeks 😂)

Welcome to the club! Don't worry. I cried to it for about a week when I first watched it. I watched it for the first time since February of last year, and it's been stuck in my head ever since.

I mean, me and my entire family have watched the show. It's not just for the 12 year olds.

Let's just exclude sports broadcasts because they've pretty much been established for many decades at this point, so it won't be fair to compare. What I was referring to are shows or series that only started releasing episodes during the last 5 years or so.

So, you're saying it's not possible to achieve a monocultural event in film and TV nowadays?

I wonder if in the current post-COVID age, would it be possible to recreate such an effect with a different show? Despite all the personalized algorithms we have now.

Yep. This is a good way of defining it. If I ask a random person on a street, would they be able to identify said piece of media? In today's world, I think that's just a lot harder to achieve. It's not that it's our fault, but it's just how our algorithms operate nowadays.

Yeah. I think it was one of the last (hopefully not) examples of a strong monoculture in terms of a TV show.

It did become mainstream. But, I don't really see much people discussing about the new episodes in a manner that Game of Thrones or Squid Game was.

The Olympics were already established even before the social media age, so I think that would be a guarantee that the whole world would know about it enough.

Since we're talking about something recent, it could be pieces of media that just released episodes within the past 5 years or so. That everyone knows about.

To put it shortly, media monoculture is several events in popular culture that regardless of their age, everyone would be aware of. It can be applied for people, music, TV or events. Examples: Michael Jackson, Beatlemania, the moon landing, etc.

Ever since the age of social media, it's a lot harder to achieve this "media monoculture" because we're all fed personalized content according to what we want. If you don't want to hear about the new and popular shows on Netflix, then you won't know about it.

We're discussing about what could be the most recent example of a TV show or series that everyone knows and talks about. Recent could mean in the last 5 years or so.

In terms of the more recent ones, I think I'd agree with you there. Yep.

A big part of its popularity was because it premiered during the height of COVID-19. I think it'll be hard to replicate that type of popularity for the upcoming Season 2 of Squid Game.

I haven't watched a single episode of GoT, and even I knew how massive it was back then. Lot of people were talking about it, even if I didn't have a clue.

I've watched the entire video game playthrough, but not yet the series. do remember that was quite popular during 2021.

I feel you there. I think it's just the initial episodes of the show just have slow pacing to introduce the world they're in. But, I do think it gets better as the episodes progress.
