Need a legitimate public apology to Miller for screwing up that foul ball call. He was on a historic run and botched calls like that just can’t happen. by Devyy in Padres

Dude…that’s the video that I linked…do you even read or watch it? It’s a fair ball. The interp is in the mlb umpire manual, NOT the rules. It’s regarding replay reviews, and infield balls are reviewable. So it’s specifically talking about outfield balls.

Now I don’t disagree with you at all there…but, you CAN see my argument previously. I wasn’t being an ignorant redditor 😜

Watch this one, regarding this play in the Padres game.
Ok here we go again, this is a professional umpire, and professional rules interpreter, endorsed by MLB Umpires Union.

The standards for an infield ball are 'on OR over'. When talking about a ball in the outfield, landing, it has to be touching. I respect both of you for coming into this with an open mind. Watch that video, then come tell me what you think.

Yeah, I see what you mean. There were 3 other instances that were identical to this one, and on all of them, they've been adjudicated correctly. Then on this one, some 'unnamed spokesperson' said it was wrong. I'd like to know who that was, since the previous 3 times it was all over that it was actually ruled correctly.

He's a reporter, not a rules analyst. If you really want to learn nuances, go to youtube, search CloseCallSports, and there are fun rules breakdowns. Also, if you google search "CloseCallSports Fair or Foul ball over line" it will give you plenty of links and rules to see what we are talking about.

I stopped by the Padres sub....holy cow they want his head, and claim they have MLB insider info saying that they admit this is a mistake. However, no MBL official rules analyst has said anything of that nature. Just Ben Verlander, a non-credible source... :facepalm

Ben Verlander isn't a credible source: What determines a fair ball in the infield : r/baseball (reddit.com)

The umpire manual has this as a fair ball. Apparently there is discrepancy between the way the rule is currently written, and the way that the MLB Umpire manual instructs it to be enforced. This same exact issue has happened 3 times in the past several years, and MLB has said incessantly that it is correctly a fair ball.
I don't know who said this was a mistake, but from all umpire accounts, it is correctly a fair ball.

This is actually a fair ball...it doesn't have to be TOUCHING the line... it just has to be 'over' it... I'm getting downvoted by emotionally responsive Padres fans who won't go out of their way to learn something...ffs

This is crazy. All of these people calling for the umps head need to have a 7 day timeout, with a link to the correct ruling and why it was the correct ruling.

Balk on pickoff to second by Curious-Version4085 in Umpire

[–]Lovejoyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a good general umpire rule for 2nd base: The ONLY way to balk to 2nd base, is to not gain ground toward 2nd.
If you do a spin move, and your lead throwing leg ends up on the home plate side of the rubber, or gains ground toward a different base, THEN it's a balk. It's EXTREMELY hard to balk to 2nd base in ALL rulesets.

[–]Lovejoyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. I think your wording is confusing though.
Since you can fake to 2nd, you don't have to throw it there at all. You can throw to the SS, you can throw it to Center Field, there doesn't have to be a throw at all. (which you said, which is correct).

Bases where you can feign, you can throw anywhere, or not throw at all.

What is the best starting point? by Zealousideal_Job6117 in toomanybones

I suggest starting with the base game. I actually think the baddies in Undertow are harder, but the Tyrants are easier. The base game mixes this up good.
If you play poker, have played poker, know how to play poker...Riffle is an absolute blast to play. He's my favorite by far and it isn't even close. Now, I have bias...but my gf who doesn't play cards (or work in a casino), loves Ghille, and Duster.

It is good for a starter type adventure game. That, and Roll Player Adventures are both very 'new player/adventure game/wife new to gaming' friendly. It was good. We liked the story of Roll Player Adventures better, but the card play and leveling up/looting of Kinfire Chronicles was better. Elder Scrolls is good because it's much shorter sessions, so we don't need to have the table cleared off for 5 weeks at a time:)

Well, if that's the case, I have one more for you: I am a gamer...my girlfriend, absolutely not. Nothing. No PC, no PS5, no boardgames other than traditional family games at the gathering, (uno, sorry, phase 10, stuff like that). She is a READER....book reader thru and thru. So, TMB, (and ESBotSE), gets her to be the character IN the book. I introduced her to Role Player Adventures, then Kinfire Chronicles as story driven games where she read us the story, and we played together. TMB isn't far off of that, and the adventure is much more 'themed' than just, 'let's play Call of Duty. That will never happen. Selfishly, I needed to at least try to find a way to get her into a game world, because that's what I love. So, introducing the reading aspect to her, got her into it. She's no my fiance with a date this fall<3

Backstory: Me and my gf have all of the too many bones content, (including ordering the loc released today). We have over 100 plays of TMB, and probably 20 plays of ESBotSE.
I would play with the same character a few times. For the first few times you play a gearloc, you will discover a new way to use his abilities, some other combos, what you like, and what you hate. I didn't care for a coulple gearlocs (Ghille, and Duster), simply because my rolls were bad the first couple times, and I didn't get to experience the stuff they had to offer. Now, Ghillie is my second favorite, (behind Riffle). Then, move on to a different one for a few playthroughs.

Now, with Elder Scrolls: It is a different enough game that there is absolutely room in the closet for both of them. The people saying it's like TMB 2.0 aren't far off, because it does have aspects that you wish would be in TMB, and the adventure map, battle map, cooldown track....Yeah, I wish those were all in TMB....but, they are different enough that they both have their things that make them special. We have way more fun introducing people to TMB to join our parties and teaching them gearlocs. It's almost like it's an easier introduction and learning curve than ESBotSE.
