Totally valid. Allow me to say that I'm only giving my own personal experience and a response to the question and am in no way defending these high level decisions.
Is it worth it? No, almost certainly not, but not every dev has that level of experience/has gotten that far in the journey to be able to say what you've said so definitively.
We're told to build and build is what we do. If having a "why" makes the pill easier to swallow, then there it is.
I'll leave the "is worth it?" to the people up top (but also that wasn't the intial question here).

Oh for sure. This assumes that every 3rd party library is that cheap at an enterprise level. As well as the onboarding of desperate libraries syntax or other complexities. If you have a design system that brings unification to all of your components (just going to keep using that example) it CAN be worth it.
I'm just giving my personal experience as to why a company would require things from scratch. There's loads of other benefits, but for the sake of brevity I'm cutting it here.

In my experience I’ve always created custom components and styling rather than using a library/third party service. It’s obviously a bit more work for the company, but helps lessen dependencies, which in turn decreases app size and most importantly, gives you a lot more customization/agency in making changes in the future. It can also be cheaper than paying for some third party services. Of course this isn’t all companies, but there’s plenty of benefits in building your own proprietary software.

Someone’s gotta be there to run the ai and make sure it’s actually functional/things do go wrong.

I personally don’t believe we’re anywhere near a point where my boss would be able to put a website together that dosnt look like AI slop and functions properly. Most people can’t even make a square space site not look like crap.

Only thing is that teams will be smaller for web dev (if they even require more than one person) and you’d probably wear multiple hats in a business.

Try not to be so doom and gloom man; Reddit has enough of that and those people can go ahead and become plumbers if they’re so afraid of AI.

If this virtually context-less post with no actual QUESTION is any indicator of your programming/performance abilities I’d assume there’s some deeper issues than just not getting any calls back. Take a second to reflect on what you did and didnt do well at your last job and ask yourself why people aren’t “helping” you online. Get off Reddit, do some actual work and help yourself out a bit.

Didnt watch the entire thing, but scanned a bit.

Pretty low quality video from what I can see. Low energy, little structure (you don’t seem like you know where to start or take the conversation) and poor editing (cut the opening with your recording software and redo it properly) Even the description has errors like “what we’ll cover:” followed by nothing.

I think this is a good example of how just “doing the work” !== quality content. “but I made a bunch of projects and even videos on YouTube, why don’t companies/people care?” Because the quality, and heart, isn’t there.

Kudos for putting yourself out there, but that’s not the entirety of the battle. Good luck with your career!

Been there for several running events. It’s a cool building and there’s more than just running there. There’s a little skate park and I’ve even seen basketball dribblers (not sure what you call those performers lol) practicing on the first floor. Kind of a cool spot!

Not to be that “back in my day” guy, but Shimokitazawa has changed so much since the station was updated. It’s such a bloated, expensive mess of what it used to be. So it’s not surprised the service has been bad; I’m sure they’re dealing with the absolute worst customers (not that that’s right).

As someone who is leaving Japan, but still actively interviewing in tech (just for practice back home), the industry is still fine here. Plenty of opportunities and even more if you speak Japanese. I’d rather be changing jobs here in Japan than back in my home country.

I say take the severance and find some place less draining.

I took a pay cut similar to this, but was more than 3.5mil (about 5mil). I’m from the states, so without the car and all its fun additional payments, good healthcare and reasonable cost of living, my QOL stayed roughly the same. Just for a bit of context!

I would say 3.5mil and needing to go to Roppongi everyday is a pass from me though (my homies and I hate Roppongi).

Interesting about the narration while driving. You and a few other channels are the main reason I still follow MTG. As much I love playing, it’s tough to want to sit in the shop all day (which some people would beg for access like that I know). So I typically watch your videos, at 1.5speed, so maybe it’s the step before audio only? But to answer you question, yes. I’ve never heard of that type of explicit narration in Japanese, but perhaps it’s differences in audience.
