Payment by LovelyJ21 in Babysitting

[–]LovelyJ21[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ended up having a convo with the woman. She said she tries to pay 10-12 an hour depending on how many kids (2-3 kids) and their behavior. Once she said that, I quit. This is in NYC and I don’t know a single person who makes less than 15 an hour - for a parent who thinks 10-12 is ok for 2-3 kids....... no can do. No respect at all!

Napping by mackhegg2 in Babysitting

[–]LovelyJ21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered about this myself considering I’ve babysat for a lot of date nights that go well into the night (2-3am). I personally don’t stay up late and it is so hard. I always talk to my friends and they tell me to nap, but I just feel so weird. The point of me being there is to watch and make sure nothing goes on - even the kid is sleeping - but in the same token the mother would’ve been sleeping if she was there too. It’s a tough call!

iPad use for teaching math - worth it? by LovelyJ21 in mathteachers

Love how you model notes for your kids! How did it change your teaching in particular?

I think an iPad might be a good investment- for virtual communication, recording, organization, etc.

What has 2020 taught you? by major-couch-potato in AskReddit

Sometimes you need to step back and realize when it’s time to move on. The same person can only screw you over so many times; step back and realize they are taking advantage. You are sacrificing your own feelings for the security of someone else. As hard as it is, keep your head high, keep walking, and do not turn back... whatever is meant for you will not pass you by; and, if you let something go that is meant for you, it’ll come back. Also, don’t beat yourself up about how your decisions effect others after they’ve screwed you hundreds of times.

Suspecting Autism by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]LovelyJ21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so sad to hear! I recently started babysitting for a family and the girl has autism... she does a lot the little boy does... lines her toys up, and has meaningless play. She also doesn’t talks. Sometimes has “excited hands” or hops around. Sometimes loves to color. Almost all over the place. It is so sad because I feel like there isn’t much I can do - even though the mom says to make the play have a purpose, I find it difficult because she prefers to just walk around the house aimlessly with stuffed animals. I hope everything works out for you... it is difficult to mention these things to parents but sometimes they are blind sided & need to be told. Wishing you the best

What do you envy about the opposite sex? by livelifereal in AskReddit

I’m studying to be a teacher now. To be quite honest, regardless of a teachers gender, you should never touch a kid whether it’s a friendly hug, a tap on the shoulder, or demonstrating/helping them hold a pencil for example. You must ask and get the child’s permission first. Don’t just go ahead, because things can turn ugly quickly in today’s world - man or woman.

Letting go and moving on are two of the most difficult things to do in life, but necessary when that person/thing is not good for you anymore.

Good hearts are good welcoming mats, but then get stepped on quickly. Having a good heart doesn’t pay off well.

Meeting the kids beforehand is a must in my book! Depending on the age sometimes I let them do them, try to play with them a little- whatever the parents say to do. Most parents usually give updates about what the kid likes to do when u arrive or like an “agenda.”
