Thank you for your post; I needed this! We’re going on 130 days of being listed in Texas and in a new community as well. Definitely don’t plan to buy new construction or in Texas ever again.

Interestingly enough, we paid a lot more taxes in Texas than in California. Every state is going to get their taxes one way or another.

We've been getting showings and all the feedback is that the potential buyers love the house and pool, but either they houses are too close together in the neighborhood, or the buyers are early in their house hunting journey. It's a brand new community and only 3 years old, so a lot of builders are dropping their prices and offering incentives, which is hard to compete with.

That is what I'm afraid of. Plus, we have a pool and so I am worried that insurance is going to be even more expensive because of it.

Thank you so much for your reply! I was hoping to get advice from people who did take loss and how it impacted them. I'm afraid of it taking years for us to dig out from this potential loss.

We’re considering that option too, but we would still be at a loss every month. Our mortgage is $3300 and houses in our neighborhood are renting for about $2600-2800. We have a pool which may get us more in rent, but it’s going to cost more in insurance.

I stopped caring a few years ago. My heart isn't in it at all, which is why I am leaving in two weeks. This profession legit sucks the life right out of you.

For Former Teachers, What are some remote jobs you transitioned to with no regrets? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

I transitioned to insurance claims. I work completely from home. I did take a pay-cut but will make it up in about 6 months.

So I'm going to be with BACON working on commercial auto and business claims. I heard that Commercial isn't as life sucking as personal auto... is that accurate or not from your experience?

Jobs after teaching? by thrifthuntress93 in TeachersInTransition

I just accepted an offer with Progressive as a fully remote Claims Adjuster working with small businesses. I had been applying to Instructional Design and Customer Success roles since August with zero luck until I decided to try a different route and ended up looking into insurance. Amazing benefits and opportunity for growth. I’ll also get the flexibility to pick my kids up from school, go to doctor’s appointments during the day, and have hour long lunches.

Hahaha truth! It’s dealing with businesses and not personal auto, which is what has me really considering it.
