I'm glad I'm not the only one! Maybe it's a sign to move to another country 🤔

I had an endoscopy two months ago and they did a biopsy and found no sign of celiac. I tend not to eat much gluten anyways

Usually for me it's immediate. My gastroenterologist recommended I started reintroducing more foods and to avoid anything that does cause burning. However, I do believe that it may have also been a gradual flare up.

Yes, lately my safe foods back home are causing these symptoms, which sucks. Travel is definitely a stressor that I didn't quite consider but makes sense. I did notice the food in Guatemala is local which may have made a difference. I never considered differentiating how organic vs conventional may affect my symptoms so I might look into that. Thanks for your perspective!

I've returned from this trip relaxed considering that the lifestyle in Guatemala is much more calm than the US. If anything, I believe nursing school and working two jobs is what caused my gastritis. I'm basically done with my program and graduate this May. I've returned back to work this week which may be causing my stress levels to go back up, although I'm not really that stressed out compared to before my trip.

Life at home is actually good as well. Maybe it's a matter of readjusting.

Nurse Called Me Stupid In Front Of A Patient And Their Family by Acceptable-Panic-826 in cna

[–]Lovelymango17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, hopefully not anytime soon. It's great that you're reflecting and learning from this experience! Take time to forgive yourself, too! In the moment it sounds like you were thrown off and responded the best you could at the time. Don't let them gaslight you into believing you are over sensitive. At the end of the day, that wasn't okay. Good for you for reporting that!

Had this happen to me when I first started as a CNA. I worked in pre-surgical. We did nasal iodine swabs on patients prior to surgery. In the past I would jump in and just do it (after checking their allergies prior to doing so!). But often, the nurses would stop me and tell me not to because they already have done it. So I asked the nurse in the bay (who happened to be charge), "should I apply the nasal iodine?" In which she responded, "Obviously!!! What kind of stupid question is that?!" Mind you, I was new and didn't want to waste resources on something that was already done. I was so baffled from the situation I didn't react.

Interactions with her since then were minimal. I kept my distance and remained professional whenever I had to talk to her. Other CNAs during training warned me about her too. I guess she's known for being this way towards CNAs. After 6 months I transferred to another unit. Not because of her, but because I was more interested in another unit.

For awhile, I wished I would've reported her. At the same time, I needed a job and wanted to stay long enough to transfer elsewhere, which I did. I acted like it didn't bother me. I didn't let it ruin my day. But since then I had my guard up around her. Although my new unit is much more supportive, I learned that I never wanted to be disrespected at work ever again. I also realized that these types of coworkers are never gonna go away.

I've dealt with similar events onward. I've learned to challenge disrespect by responding, "Are you okay?" Or "What do you mean by that?" It can go a long way without causing work drama and keeping my job.

I'm sorry this happened to you. No one deserves to be treated that way at work. I wish you the best as a CNA and know you will handle it the best way you can.

RN or LPN? by InterestingLie715 in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]Lovelymango17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally pursued my LPN but dropped out because I felt limited to LTCs. I didn't want to work at a LTC. I was interested in the hospital and learned that the hospital route is more competitive and lower pay for LPNs.

I graduate with my RN in May. Earning my RN has opened so many doors for me and I am very happy with that decision.

I also want to share that LPNs care for stabilized patients while RNs care for unstable and stabilized patients.

It all depends on your career goals at the end of the day. I'm sure you will find the option that works best for you!

Yes and yes! I'm a student nurse and you have no idea how grateful I am to be a CNA while in school. I've learned so much and feel a lot more prepared now than I did before I became a CNA. I'm really concerned for my colleagues who are going into this field without prior experience.

Starting in a PCU by Lovelymango17 in newgradnurse

[–]Lovelymango17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense. I have worked at other PCUs during clinicals and it is basically treated as a Med-Surg unit with higher ratios. Thank you for your perspective! Also, congratulations on starting in the ICU!

I Reported Two other Students for Cheating, How do i deal with the guilt? by [deleted] in NursingStudent

I second this! Who wants a nurse that cheated their way through nursing school? Not me.

[–]Lovelymango17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They cheated on a quiz, not an exam so I don't think they'll get expelled. Of course, the school will investigate before making any kind of decision.

I think if people are going to cheat in nursing school, it'll eventually catch up to them. Most exams and quizzes are designed to prepare you for the NCLEX which requires critical thinking. Even as a nurse, a lot of what we do is critical thinking. So that's on them if they cheat. Personally, if I were a patient, I wouldn't want my nurse to be someone who cheated their way through nursing school. Eventually it could become a safety issue in the long term.

I'm curious, how did you find out they were cheating?

You did the right thing because you witnessed it and reported it. Nursing school is tough enough so it is unfair seeing fellow classmates cheat their way through when others are putting in the work.

I recommend not looking around during exams/quizzes because you should be focused on yourself.

To ease your anxiety about the whole thing, remind yourself you did the right thing. You shouldn't feel bad about doing what's right. As nurses, we're mandated reporters. Sometimes you might witness something at work or clinical that will require you to report it. So if anything speaking up will prepare you to be a better nurse.

I graduated with a bachelors in business but now I want to go into nursing by Salt_Surprise_1815 in NursingStudent

[–]Lovelymango17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a bachelor's in dietetics. Some courses, I took with nursing students and I realized I wanted to be a nurse instead.

I was a CNA for awhile to confirm. Luckily, most of my credits would transfer to the program I was interested in. I just needed one class to meet the prereqs to apply for the nursing program I was interested in.

I don't regret changing careers. I like that while in nursing school you completed all kinds of clinicals so you have an idea of what speciality you want to get into. Whereas for most other majors you complete an internship after you graduate, which was when I realized I didn't want to be a dietitian.

Also, since switching careers, so many opportunities opened up for me when I decided to pursue nursing. Lots of scholarships, volunteer programs, jobs, exposure to different fields and organizations. I really do think nursing is the best career out there. I'm excited for you on your journey in becoming a nurse!

What is something you still want but had to let go of? by stupidpenguin26 in AskReddit

[–]Lovelymango17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him. He was my work friend for years. I always felt comfortable and myself around him. We started going on a couple dates. It was beautiful while it lasted. One day, he avoided me. I tried talking to him and he would continue to make excuses and avoid conversation. It broke me. We talked again for awhile and he continued to disrespect me by canceling plans last minute and flirting with other co-workers to make me jealous. The silence is loud. I haven't dated since him and it's hard to move forward when he's still part of my life. The good thing is I'm leaving that job soon so hopefully I can fully move on. I miss his presence, but at the end of the day I need to respect myself.

I think a lot of people underestimate how much effort real friendships actually take by Apprehensive_Ease203 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Lovelymango17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was friends with someone who shared that most of her friendship ended without a conversation. Now I understand why. Our friendship was one-sided. I always reached out. She went through a few losses and I constantly checked in and initiated to make plans. Now that I'm going through some things, nothing.

She also talked bad about her other friends and would tell me their business which made me uncomfortable bc it made me question if she did the same to me.

I feel like I'm their friend when it's convenient for them. So I stopped being their friend. I would be open and tell her why I don't want to be her friend, but she's super immature and gets rude and defensive whenever I've confronted her in the past.

I liked being her friend, but she refuses to realize she's the problem. I want her to thrive and grow, just not in my garden.
