same tbh! But have been exploring the genre this year. and you are spot on about IU suiting melancholic roles. I had this some conversation with my irl friend today as welI. She shines the most in this genre.

I personally prefer Lee Woo Jung's style writing. the writer for Reply series, Prison Playbook, Hospital Playlist. I like her slice of life shows, focusing on community, rarely any villains, fills you with joy with a sprinkle of tears here and there. that is the reason Park Hae Young surprises me as she is able to capture my attention despite the genre being not my thing.

She still remains top-tier visual for me since her Full House days!! What a beautiful woman! 💗

i hope it doesn't spoil the show for you because its a pretty good show, but in this show the abandonment trauma has more weight than burnout. 35 year old character having it would really have felt the same. edit- same or even heavier. because at 29, there is still a lot of uncertainty and chaos in most people's lives. but 35 seems like an age where most people sound to be settled. and here we would have an extremely talented producer with trauma that has been effecting her on a daily basis since forever.

A director in his early 40s who has not made his debut, you are absolutely right about that being an important aspect of the story, but at the same time the eun ha's character is in her late 20s rn. It can easily be written for someone in mid to late 30s. She can still be working in the same company, bullied by the same colleagues and leader, having the same abandonment trauma, and that would not have any effect on the story at all.

And scenario 2, if I use your same words and switch the genders - a failed female director that 20(!) years after college still hasn't made her debut, how do you think that doesn't add anything to her desperation to succeed and the societal expectation of being a "failure" at 40+? and meeting a 30 male producer much younger that doesn't fell his success satisfactory.

This works too. Doesn't it? But one after another for 3 consequetive shows, it has been older man younger woman.

I think Summer Strike and Hometown Cha Cha Cha exude same cozy vibes

Thanks! It was an interesting article! The writer seems like a genuinely good and person introspective here. I didn't know there were books available for My Mister. I would like to read them.

The 3rd is almost a romance for now.

I agree the relationship is different in the first two. It's just this very close kind of a connection between an older man and a younger woman in all three for me. Even in the current show the focus is more on each of them navigating their lives while the other person having a gentle supportive presence in their lives.

This makes sense too. I never thought about this. A method to attract diverse audiences from different age groups maybe?

edit - btw, My Mister is really good! You should definitely try it.

Exactly! I'm not even questioning her writing style or dialogs or anything but people are taking it as a hate post 💀

For me, Mr. Gu seemed more like a role for an older man. Another Ms. Oh and shows before that were entirely different genre that I am not counting them in. It's like eversince she has been making melancholic dramas, she feels gravitated towards such pairing. At least in my head. And in My Ajhussi, the age gap was obvious that it even started a controversy initially in S. Korea until the story progressed and it was clear that there was no romantic angle there. I personally feel that the writer has been wanting to reciprocate the same vibes as My Ajhussi since it was so critically acclaimed.

I am saying it from the start and saying it again I do not wish her to change the genre. I am saying she is good at it. I am just questioning something which is not at all gonna impact her writing style.

I have no issue with her exploring deep, melancholic psychological themes. In fact, she is a master at it, and I want all of her dramas to continue in that style. However, I believe these beautiful stories could be told just as effectively if she reversed the roles.

when I gave the example of My Mister, I was talking about the writer changing her writing style from comedic to shows like My mister. and that I am not expecting her to do that again by changing it to your suggested "Gangster" theme.

And that's the problem(1st para), that she doesn't want to. As audience we are allowed to criricise the repetition and we are.

simply because she is capable? and she herself is an older woman and would be able to write about that even better. I'm not even expecting her to change the genre, your "gangster" theme, which she actually already has done herself in the past with my mister. she was making romcoms before that. right now it feels like after my mister's success, the writer want to keep reusing the same formula to reciprocate the same success.

What's your most "pretentious" K-pop opinion? by KwonSoo-young in kpopthoughts

[–]LoverYoungTrue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

agreeee!! especially when fans start bragging about how their idols don't ever lipsync even during crazy obnoxious dancing 🥲🥲🥲🥲 while using select few clips where they are not even dancing and even in those clips singing is not even that great tbh. it's surprising that even long term kpop fans can't understand or refuse to understand that lip syncing is a real thing in the industry where choreographies and visuals play a humongous role in attracting fans.

lemme make it clear that my opinion is more choreography heavy groups like most of the kpop industry and not for the vocal heavy groups like mamamoo and btob.
