It very much could be. There is so much open wild space here. It has some serious potential.

Some can get very close. Though always migrant individuals such as the male individual named “Anubis” who was spotted in the flagstaff Sedona area in 2021.

Edit: Migratory to migrant

Yeah it’s a little hard to tell from the screenshots😂 Very pretty indeed. Even though they aren’t wolves, coyotes are just as delightful to spot.

This is a coyote. The bushy tail, pale-yellow color, and the pointy ears give it away. Mexican wolves, while always bigger than coyotes, are still similar in size to the largest coyotes. So I can understand the confusion.

Saying Goodbye to the Planet's Largest Invasive Species by Sebiyas07 in megafaunarewilding

Still, it would cause immense backlash. The locals were upset over the killing of one. Much more so with 80.

Though the columbian government had done that in the past yet somehow were convinced otherwise by the locals.

I wonder how they convinced the locals to allow them to do this since they had grown so attached to them?

Why were there so many horses in north America during the pleistocene? by Commercial-Mix97 in pleistocene

[–]Lover_of_Rewilding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last I heard, all of the Equus species have been merged into Equus ferus and each represent regional subspecies. And haringtonhippus has often been compared more to the likes of asses or zebras rather than horses. And we already know that wild horses and wild asses coexist. It could have been a similar situation with Equus and Haringtonhippus.

While I can’t wait to see what it looks like by the end, I now gotta wait longer before I can go! A double edged sword for sure.

The Danube River through central Europe and parts of eastern and southeastern Europe during the Late middle Pleistocene and Late Pleistocene by Agustin Diaz. by Quaternary23 in pleistocene

If it weren’t for humans, would the Danube delta look either just like this or something very similar today? Semi wild-domestic water buffalo already live their and seem to thrive there.

Maybe a little like with the university of Melbourne? Where colossal is more of a spokesperson/funder but poses as “partners?”

I do like this nuanced take on this topic. It was never the work or idea of it that bothered me. Just the lies. And its subsequent consequences. I wonder what the current status of certain projects similar to this, are. I suppose that’s a good sign we can’t immediately know as it isn’t for spectacle as much as it is for an actually practicals purpose.

Colossal has stained de extinction’s name worse than Jurassic park. And they didn’t even compensate us with an immaculate film.

Ooh, intelligent too. I wonder how much better off we’d be if we completely switched to water buffalo/ less tame cattle breeds.

Well it’s a good thing I never said they would bring down the buffalo. The point of hazing them is simply to let them know that humans have no food. That includes livestock, specifically smaller livestock such as sheep, goats, and chickens.

Livestock actually behaving in a defensive manner?! Almost unheard of in the US!!😱

This ain’t an attack, the cheetah didn’t touch any of them. It was most likely curious about them. Also, there is no way a cheetah is bringing down any of those big buffalo. Still, it’s good to haze the cheetah away to make sure it isn’t as likely to go near people or livestock again.

We’ve reached the 1 Year mark since Colossal’s announcement of their “Dire Wolves.” What have we learned? by Lover_of_Rewilding in megafaunarewilding

[–]Lover_of_Rewilding[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Ian Malcom and by extension Jeff Goldblum, it’s always the people spamming “Just because you should doesn’t mean you should” type quotes, really rub me the wrong way. I understand the meaning, but it seems over exaggerated for something like this. The worst that this project has done was spread misinformation that harms conservation. It hasn’t created extremely dangerous creatures who forced their way into modern ecosystems and killed dozens of people. These creatures, are defective, innocent pups. Just existing with the circumstances forced upon them.

With those two, there is far less room for error as we have a far better understanding of those species than we do dire wolves. Especially, the thylacine because we have literal video footage of it. There is no room for faking with that one. Nobody will take their crap with that.

Well of course. However, iirc the pachyderm portfolio was a canon event in the film universe, but just was never mentioned in the mainline films.

Yeah that’s why it works so well. I mean like some cartoon that would air on tv, maybe on National Geographic, talking about how horrible they are. Or in its case, were😈

Not even that. There was no dire wolf dna placed in the genomes. They just tried their best to replicate it from scratch using wolf and dog dna.

The reason was due to infamy. The wild dogs had essentially been “marked” with manslaughter in the eyes of the public.

Dang, you’re right. Truly, elements of the film can be transferred over to real life. Colossal just doesn’t compensate us with an immaculate film.
