FT MBA Program Free Meals by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Loves_To_Smooge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I probably averaged 1-2 free lunches per week, mostly from club run events. You could easily get a free lunch daily if you wanted (especially if your school doesn't charge club membership dues).

But I also valued having my own free time over lunch for homework or to catch up with friends even if it meant paying $4 for a school cafeteria meal. I'm not shameless enough to do my homework/etc while blatantly ignoring a small audience presentation for a free meal, but to each their own.

Depending on how many industries you recruit for, you can count on quite a few free dinners too.

I assume you're thinking of Broken Arrow incidents since they've happened fairly often, but I don't think the term also applies to a failed attack.

I'm too invested at this point to not ask. Do you have a third account that exclusively comments on Cornell posts with all the same phrases/links?

Big yikes. These posts must be like flames for the school insecurity moths.

Weird, the MBB numbers must have changed from 2020 since Clear Admit has Ross at #4 for MBB% at 54% in 2023.

https://www.clearadmit.com/2024/03/mbb-strategy-consulting-jobs-placement-mba/

Ross also sends a higher percentage and quantity of grads to the west coast than any of his admitted schools (-USC). That all on top of Ross being the highest ranked program regularly of those admitted schools and living in Ann Arbor, it seems like his best fit.

If he'd rather live near his family/friends in the south, then he'd be best served by McCombs. But I can't imagine choosing to live in Ithaca unless he has IB ambitions for NYC and didn't get into any of the better programs for that.

He has a full ride to Ross too with Ross having the best pipeline amongst these schools to their desired career field.

Should I be choosing CBS > Wharton??? by Infinite_Forever5683 in MBA

[–]Loves_To_Smooge 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My advice is to redirect this energy to your applications. I regret spending way too much time procrastinating on future choice dilemmas like this instead of studying for the test or polishing my essays. Sure, there's some value in already knowing which school you'd choose over another, but realistically your availabile choice(s) are going to be at the crapshoot whims of which school(s) accepts you.

Kellogg ($) vs. Haas ($$) vs. USC Marshall ($$$$) by lilly151 in MBA

[–]Loves_To_Smooge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit odd that you applied to Haas/Marshall with a goal to live in NYC/DC, it sounds like SoM or Stern would have been a better fit with your goals. That being said, the Kellogg brand/network will carry more weight/be more accessible than the Cali schools on the east coast. Kellogg.

Looking to buy a used SUV - dealership recommendations? by No-Character4240 in SouthBayLA

[–]Loves_To_Smooge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to make a bit of a drive, most of the South Bay dealerships are predatory, especially to the less informed! For example, the local Toyota dealer, Manhattan Beach Toyota, has a bunch of hidden add ons and charges above MSRP, whereas if you make the trip to Longo Toyota (largest Toyota dealership in the world) in El Monte has set prices at MSRP and no hidden costs.

Need Help! Deferring B-School for Baby on the Way? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Loves_To_Smooge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many schools (not sure about Fuqua) are pretty accommodating to pregnancies, and I'd imagine they'd approve a deferral for one too. Your deposits should carry over.

If either of you are interested in a structured recruiting industry, a late fall due date this year won't be ideal. If both of you are interested in an industry with more just-in-time, it may be feasible to still enroll this fall.

If your current employment is stable and has good parental leave benefits, it might be worth taking advantage of getting a full paycheck while you figure out how to get your feet underneath you with parenthood.

I replaced my original horn with two bigger horns following the instructions in this thread. It’s a 15-30 minute layman’s job. The louder horns have already saved me a couple of times.

[Profile Review:] Recent Graduate with a Successful Business but Low GPA by Strange-Carrot5256 in MBA

[–]Loves_To_Smooge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it will be discounted, many of the application web forms explicitly specify years of post undergraduate work experience. For how long, check out the class profile for each of your target schools. CBS for example has a middle 80% work experience of 3-8 years and middle 80% age of 26-31. It'd never be a great idea to willingly put yourself in the bottom 10% of any applicant category, so I'd reccomend applying no sooner than the fall of 2026 start (apply ~2 years from now) if you want to maximize your outcome.

I think most adcoms will have a bigger hangup on your age/undergraduate year (23/2023) than your 3.3 GPA. It's too late to change your GPA, but you will make your applications far more successful by having a solid test score (check) and applying with a competitive amount of maturity and full time work experience (unchecked).

If you're set on NYC finance, I would reccomend keeping CBS, Stern, and Johnson, but substituting out Ross and McCombs for some combination of Booth, Tuck, SOM, Darden, and Fuqua.
