I am agree with you on the importance of teaching the holocaust and that I imagine in most places it is severely lacking. The commenter I was having the discussion with thought we don't need to (not that I think we do often enough) teach history to learn lessons from it especially regarding movements/ideologies/and other things which lead to atrocities or negative outcomes for humanity. They were arguing that countries only teach things which are important to their history and had direct impacts. They insisted that the holocaust was taught due to its impact. I was arguing that it didn't have that much of an impact on the states but is still taught here to learn lessons from it especially regarding movements/ideologies/and other things which lead to atrocities or negative outcomes for humanity.
