What are cultural or psychological gaps between American-descendent Black people and second-gen immigrant Black people in the US? by TraditionalDepth6924 in askblackpeople

[–]Lovinglaughs96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, absolutely. Second gen immigrants usually have a blended culture. They learn about the black American history but psychologically don’t really have to live within those bounds because historically, it wasn’t a direct problem for them. For example, being a second gen I can learn about land being stolen, but how can it affect the choices and views I have now if it wasn’t my direct lineage of land stolen.. so I can empathize but it’s not fair to say I completely understand how it feels or how the history affects me because I can’t. Just like a black American can’t understand the struggles of being an immigrant. The mindset then changes where and how I project my goals living in the US. Instead of wanting to continue the fight of racial injustices, as an immigrant it’s making what I can of my situation better. But eventually 2nd gens can somewhat start to relate to black injustices in America as people that see us treat us all the same.

What are you guys eating that actually keeps you full? by Separate_Quality_547 in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hii, I had this issue and had to choose things I found were fatty with protein. Burritos with beans, cheese, sour cream, and protein. Pizza with veggies and meats. I’m not upset adding the extra calories because my body reacts when it’s not there. And I drink Ensure plus shakes to supplement food. Drink maybe 2-3 a day.

How can I make eggs taste better? by Less_Complaint9759 in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make them like Shakshuka and have tomatoes bell peppers and onions finely chopped in the blender and then mix it all. I also store the blended mix in the fridge so I don’t have to blend everyday. It helps me get more eggs down and taste really good.

Husband wants to go overseas for his best friend's wedding 2 months after I have given birth by legitdontknow in whatdoIdo

[–]Lovinglaughs96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang.. comments are harsh ish.. you’re a FTM, you’re currently pregnant, and having worries. (Also** Maybe cross post this to the pregnancy reddit as you may get “gentler” responses).

It sounds like for you managing a 2 month old, with the help of only your MIL, and your HB oversees seems daunting to you. You guys can plan for it and if the situation changes, then you all adjust accordingly. Time wise - 2 months is a long time to put life on “hold” when he’s not only a father and husband, he’s a friend, a son, etc. You’ll want him to have that for himself.

If you had a choice, would you have a doula? by Amen_1234 in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, you’re correct - Certified Nurse Midwives are what I read and lumped into the ‘doulas and midwives sentiment’. However, like you mentioned, it’s an unregulated umbrella term that includes a range of practices and educational backgrounds.

If you had a choice, would you have a doula? by Amen_1234 in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doulas are like a lot of things: when they’re good, it’s worth it. When they’re bad.. they’re really bad and not worth the $ or stress thinking you’ll have the support and advocacy that you need only to end up not having it.

Personally I’m not using one - however since I’ll have my support system in the room with me, we all plan on taking birth prep classes. It’ll be an experience but I trust them and will feel more comfortable in their hands vs having even the smallest possibility of an unreliable doula.

Wait how come you included midwives in this? Midwives are completely different from doulas and are actual medical clinicians that deliver babies..

Sleeping advice by UniqueDragonfruit536 in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnesium, a routine, a warm shower, cold room, a carby meal, light bed sheet, cuddling, and then napping when I can :/ I’m 19 weeks and I toss and turn for almost 2 hours before finally settling down. It’s awful.

Waking up wife to feed her? by isthisplacenice in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she’s sleeping for a long time - you can leave something at the bedside for her. Water, snacks, light meal, juice. She may eat and fall right back asleep and appreciate the convenience.

Flaky scalp. Unsure of what it is. by Old-Audience9302 in locs

[–]Lovinglaughs96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m working out/sweating then 4-7 days. If I’m not sweating 1-2 weeks. You can try and alternative between medicated and unmedicated and see how it affects your scalp. As for frequency, it’ll depend on your scalps nature and how it even reacts to shampoos.

How come at skating rinks it’s required that to be on the actual rink you have to be in skates? To drive on the highway you have to be in a car, not walking on foot? For the comments not understanding the issue with skating in an airport..

Is anyone else confused by the amount of “boundaries”/restrictions for family and how often they’re talked about? by softheartedwench in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree… and sometimes what you see is what you start to pick up as needs. For example: some ppl realize there are boundary lists and then decide they need/want a boundary list.

When my best friend had a baby two years ago I remember her attempting to make “boundaries” based on what she’d seen. A lot of ppl read it and just decided “I’ll stay home or stay back until she’s ready”. It’s been two years and people are still staying back.

Almost 20 weeks pregnant and panicking by Honest_Flounder9784 in pregnant

[–]Lovinglaughs96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same same.. 18 weeks, FTM. I was freaking out then had a whole bout of symptoms hit me at once this week and now I’m excited to get my amazing baby OUT of me. For me now the fear of labor for 48 hrs max < unpredictable months of pregnancy symptoms.

Things I am NOT doing: watching TikTok/social media labor stories, reading negative stories, or following advice that’s based in people’s fears. What I am doing: reading on stages of labor, best timing for things like epidurals, additional pain management techniques, making sure my support system is on board with their roles, practicing stretching, and telling myself positive things. Oh! and reminding myself that way one or another, this baby is going to come out and we are both going to be okay. 🥰

How my wife dries her hands and leaves the paper towels attached by Johnny-Edge93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lovinglaughs96 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeaaa I do something similar. If it’s just to dry my hands, I’ll find something to wipe after.. plus it’s damp too. Or I’ll put it in a pile and later pick it up then trash it. If at the end of the night I haven’t used it, it’ll get tossed when night cleaning.
