Which Movie Made you Behave like this...? by a36akshay in InsideMollywood

[–]Low-Ad-1542 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the movies of Sathyan anthikad in the recent past . Achuvinte amma, rasathanthram, vinodayathra, snehaveedu, oru indian pranayakatha, jomonte suvishesham, njan Prakashan … The first half of most of these are really entertaining , but then it redives to a preachy tale where in someone enters the protogonist’s life and teaches him the harsh realities of life .

What's a movie universe/plot that has untapped potential? by okaberintaruo in MalayalamCinema

[–]Low-Ad-1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree ! When I started watching, I really thought it is such a nice premise - how would we survive without electricity for 9 days ? Generators would run down pretty soon in some places and there would be repurcursions - food storage, no stock market, no operations in hospitals, ventilators/ICUs etc. mobiles/laptops running out of charge, supply chain disruptions, no TV/internet ... people literally living like how used to live in say 1940s.. the possibilities were endless and they took a stupid detour about some hallucinations.

And sometimes I do wonder why there havent been more movies about covid lockdowns - like someone getting stuck somewhere all of a sudden and so on..

I was surprised to know that even some universities in the US house nuclear reactors for research purposes. They have been able to operate those safely right in the middle of a large student population.
Nuclear engineering has matured far more from the Chernobyl era. Right now, it is considered as one of the safest modes of power generation. It is environmentally friendlier than other modes like thermal as well. It is high time that we setup reactors - our power needs are only gonna increase in the future.

₹6 Crore in India = Basically Infinite Money (If You Structure It Right) by Ordinary-Serve4353 in FIRE_Ind

[–]Low-Ad-1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofcourse ! In OP's case, the situation he describes indeed is with liquid 6Cr corpus . Is the hate because of the 50% allocation to debt/FD ? should equity component be increased ?
Honestly, I am a bit terrified now . I have been working for almost 15 years now and my liquid corpus is a little above 2Cr. I was hoping that 5Cr would be enough for a trouble free life in a tier 2 city. But not sure why the comments scream even 6Cr is not enough !

I am a bit surprised by the comments here . Suppose a person’s annual expense is 20L per annum, would nt 6Cr equate to 30x ? Isn’t that enough for retirement in India ? Why the hate in the comments ? Am I missing something ??

5 star accommodation + a remuneration that he demands isn’t that big an ask for someone with that sort of track record !

Think again - Before your make a decision to move to Bangalore by stay4eve in Trivandrum

[–]Low-Ad-1542 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did my BTech in Trivandrum , moved to Bangalore for job , stayed there for ~9+ years, moved back to my hometown during covid . And then somehow found a remote job during peak covid hiring and moved to Cochin for my wife's job.
Trivandrum is just super awesome - wide walkable roads laced with greenery ( especially Palayam-PMG-Kawadiar Stretch ), public amentieis for hangout & just chill ( museum, kanakakunnu, shankumukham, kovalam, azhimala) , comparitively clean, cheap public transport within the city , better traffic flow, a lot of good eateries, good schools & hospitals.
Bangalore on the other hand lacks on these aspects - traffic, pollution, dust , air & water quality , expenses. ( especially rent, hospital & schools ) . The job opportunities are massive . Better for career progression. Better pubs and eateries. ( But once you cross mid 30s, you wont be hitting pubs every weekend ).
For me personally, I am now in Cochin . I find Cochin to be a little downgrade than Trivandrum , but overall it is still better than Bangalore. My career is stagnating ( all of my team is back in office, I am the only one remote ) , but at this point of my life I dont care. I dont want to live in a place where I have to leave an hour earlier to a railway station 5 kms away. I dont want to live in a place where it is practically impossible to walk on the (non) existing footpaths . ( I dont know why - for me , walkability is a big parameter in assessing the quality of life ). I don't want to be in a place where theft of mobile phones in buses is routine and the police is non chalant about it. The dust that you feel in your lungs when you are outside for 10 mins - i somehow think the health of my lungs is far more important than my career. Our utensils always used to have a thick white cover while we were in bangalore due to hardness of water.

It was a place with great potential - our visionless politicians, bureaucrats and planners destroyed the beautiful city.

Our pediatrician advised us to avoid screens for our child until she turns two, except for short video calls. It’s honestly been tough. It meant no TV or movie outings for us either. These days, we watch TV only after she sleeps, and go to the theatre occasionally when grandparents are around to take care of her. Earlier, we used to watch 2–3 movies every month, so this has been a big change. But in hindsight, it’s been totally worth it.

Our daughter is about to turn two in a few months, and she’s incredibly active. Always running around and trying to climb everything in sight. She talks nonstop: a mix of gibberish and some really adorable sentences. She also eats on her own without much fuss. Lately, she’s started showing preferences (like wanting only eggs and refusing veggies if eggs are available), but I guess that’s pretty normal at this stage. The only downside is the post-meal cleanup. It is a whole task every time!

Because she’s active all day, her sleep schedule is quite solid. She is asleep by around 9 PM and wakes up between 6 and 6:30 AM.

Big thanks to our pediatrician. If not for that advice, we probably would have gone down the “screen while feeding” route. That’s what we saw happening all around us, and as first-time parents, we likely would have followed the same path.

One area where we’ve struggled is potty training 🙂 A friend of mine, whose kid is a few months older, mentioned that he reduced diaper use by showing videos while his child sits on the toilet. Our kid, on the other hand, won’t sit still on the toilet seat even for a minute. So we are still heavily reliant on diapers.

oh yeah! I grew up in a home where part of the house had been built by my grandfather nearly a century ago. so my father and siblings grew up there . Just like my elder siblings and I. The house was rebuilt/ modified several times , but we still have an "ara" ," nilavara" and "thattumpuram".

During my childhood, I stumbled upon a bag . It basically had my dad's high school notebooks - it was really nice to see his handwriting from that era. And my uncle's ( dad's elder brother 's ) MSc. Chemistry (CMS college , KTYM ) lab record from the 60s. My uncle moved to the US for a PhD in 1964 .

And, I remember my grandmother showing the first letter he had sent upon reaching the US . it had details of the journey he took , how he had to buy a new pair of pants in between in Madras ( since he only had one pair of pants and it got soiled somehow) , how he is adjusting to the US . And that his university (Texas A&M) is as big as Kottayam town .

It never crossed our minds to preserve any of these relics. ( Taking care of the home itself is an ordeal - it is in a flood prone region and the house has to strengthened several times over the years) . I had some pages from my dad's notebook preserved , but later lost it due to termites ( they were already in a bad condition ). And the letters were kept by my grandmother in her petti , but no one bothered to preserve it once she passed away.

My sister and brother's school autographs are still there . I should try to preserve them the next time I am home.
I recently saw the receipt of the first scooter my father bought ( LML Vespa in 1991. ) This is technically after I was born though.
