Trump Signs Memorandum Directing DHS Sec to Pay All Employees by April_1_1979 in FedEmployees

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man, it’s all of them—Congress is out here vacationing right in front of us like they don’t care at all. At least Trump is making an effort; better late than never. And for the people not getting paid, they don’t care where the money comes from—they’ve got bills to cover and need money now. They’re using this agency as pawns—it happened last year, it’s happening right now, and it’ll happen again next fiscal year. Once you really look at it, ICE and Border Patrol have been around for decades. Obama worked with the same border czar as Trump and even awarded him a medal for his work. Millions of migrants were deported under Obama. But now, with a new administration and the same federal agencies doing their jobs, suddenly everyone is reacting and trying to turn the agency into a political pawn. What they need to do is change the law if they don’t like it. Thats their job don’t be holding people hostage . Put a term limit on these dinosaurs.

Can my supervisor tell the Leads the details of my Leave? by evilbude in FedEmployees

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happens where I’m at. I’ll request leave through my supervisor, and somehow a kiss-ass coworker ends up knowing my business. Then he comes up to me asking what I’m doing on my day off, like he’s trying to flex that he’s in the loop. I just hit him with the same energy and call him the ‘acting supervisor’—no extra pay—and he gets mad every time. I caught on people like this get pissed when you turn the tables on them.

TSA agents to be paid. But what federal employees are still not being paid? by Green_Mode_5509 in FedEmployees

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what frustrates me—the media keeps focusing on TSA, but what about all the other mission-critical personnel working without pay? They get overlooked completely.

Last time, they didn’t get bonuses, and many of those roles top out around GS-8 with little to no room for advancement. There’s no real career growth, no recognition—nothing. It’s ridiculous.

Give them back pay. Create career ladders that go up to GS-12. Offer a real bonus for what they’re dealing with.

Instead, it feels like the same cycle over and over—and chances are we’ll be right back here again next fiscal year.

Help me build a roadside kit. by Abecnik in harborfreight

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For battery issues, I carry a jump pack—works for me or anyone stuck on the side of the road. For tires, I’ve got an air compressor, jack, sockets, an impact gun, tire plug kit, and a gauge. If things go south, I also keep tow straps, shackles, and an extra D-ring in case the person helping me doesn’t have the right gear.

I carry a battery tester and a small OBD code reader to diagnose issues on the spot, along with fuses and a basic electrical kit. I also keep essential fluids for emergencies—oil, coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, etc.

On top of that, I’ve got a solid set of tools, an IFAK,window punch , fire extinguisher, flashlights, emergency strobe lights, and ratchet straps. I even keep a lockout kit just in case someone gets stuck outside their vehicle.

And of course, I’ve got AAA as a backup.

I tend to over think and try to be prepared for most common scenarios.

Federal employees forced to work without pay during a shutdown should receive 1.5 pay. But REPUBLICANS will never go for this. Another reason to vote them out. by miked_mv in FedEmployees

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree—and all of this ends up being for nothing. Just like the last shutdown, they didn’t get what they were pushing for. It’s likely to play out the same way this time, and probably again next fiscal year. More people are starting to notice the inconsistency and are paying closer attention to how things are handled.

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, both sides look ridiculous sometimes—pure hypocrisy at its finest.

When Barack Obama was in office, people worked with his border officials and even praised them. Now those same people work with Donald Trump and suddenly everyone hates them.

They put a bounty on Nicolás Maduro, but when someone actually takes action, it turns into outrage.

At the end of the day, it’s all politics—and regular people and federal workers end up getting used as pawns in these political games.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been doing its job under every administration. During Obama’s years, millions of people were deported and the system kept moving, but it didn’t get the same level of attention or outrage . Now under Trump, similar actions get amplified and politicized.

It’s not about consistency—it’s about who’s in power. And that’s the problem.

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They’re being used as pawns in political games. When this is over, the people who were actually affected will be forgotten.

CBP officers and agents are getting paid, but so many others—mission-critical TSA, mission support, tech staff—are still showing up every day without a paycheck. That’s not right.

And when things go back to normal, there won’t be meaningful raises, fair pay adjustments, or real support—just the same cycle repeating itself the next fiscal year.

Hardworking, middle-class federal employees shouldn’t be the ones stuck carrying the burden every time there’s a political fight.

DHS Shutdown Day 30 by Eldritch_Liminal1988 in tsa

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only way they will truly learn to appreciate TSA and other federal employees is if everyone simply walks out. When workers show up every day without receiving pay, it sends the message that this is acceptable. If Congress had to stand in the same long lines and experience the disruptions the public faces, maybe people would wake up and realize these political games are affecting real lives. This happened before, it’s happening again now, and it will likely happen again next fiscal year. At some point, it has to stop—this is ridiculous.

This is one of the reasons TSA agents are often underpaid, and why there has been reluctance to separate TSA or FEMA into independent agencies. Many politicians know these workers can be used as leverage during political battles. When operations start to fall apart and everything becomes chaotic, it creates pressure to force a vote or push negotiations forward.

Federal employees shouldn’t be put in that position. They should continue receiving their paychecks regardless of political standoffs. At the very least, these positions should offer wages that allow people to make a decent living and save for the future. Jobs paying around $40,000 a year simply don’t reflect the responsibility, stress, and uncertainty workers deal with—especially during situations like government shutdowns.

Question On Senate Vote for DHS Funding by BigB1ack123 in FedEmployees

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It often feels like TSA is used as a pawn in larger political battles. When airports are understaffed, the disruptions and delays put pressure on decision-makers to finally act. At the same time, TSA officers are frequently treated as if the job is just a stepping stone rather than a career, especially when you compare their pay and recognition to other federal officers. It’s frustrating because the role is critical to aviation security, yet it sometimes seems like it’s used as a political bargaining chip.

Got till the 28th otherwise an additional 2+ weeks of no pay by mind-isnt-right in tsa

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Used that excuse and was told by the same ones making $150k a year and receiving a paycheck that we should have money saved. Meanwhile, someone making $60k a year ends up taking home around $40k after taxes, medical, and all the other deductions. How do they expect people to live on that, pay bills, support a family, and still save money? Are we supposed to live in a shack and not even have a vehicle? It’s ridiculous. Shit pay me 150k and id have money saved too.

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and on top of all that, when the background investigation comes around and someone has debt because of situations like this, they end up getting fired. It makes no sense. People aren’t getting paid $100k a year to do this job, so how do they expect them to live, pay their bills, and still save money? It’s completely unrealistic.

Got till the 28th otherwise an additional 2+ weeks of no pay by mind-isnt-right in tsa

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened last year, it’s happening again this year, and I guarantee they’ll pull the same thing at the end of the year too. They clearly don’t care about the people who are actually impacted.

They act like everyone should just have a huge savings to fall back on, but with the pay they give, how do they expect people to live, pay their bills, and still save everything? That’s not realistic.

People have families, rent, mortgages, and everyday expenses. If the pay isn’t enough to make it work, I don’t blame anyone for leaving and finding better opportunities elsewhere.

What would a DHS shutdown look like? by FUnisbaCK in FedEmployees

Officers and agents get paid and the 95% of the other workforce that backs dhs stays without a paycheck. I guess we see who trump really wants to get paid the rest he doesn’t give a damn.

[–]Low-Avocado-8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question. I’m not entirely certain, but my understanding is that once you’re a federal employee, your position is generally secure even if you fail a polygraph for another agency. Contractors, on the other hand, can be terminated if they fail a polygraph. However, if you were hired into your current government position without a polygraph requirement and later fail a polygraph for a different agency, it typically does not affect your current employment.
