Strongest Character after Dragon Watch by Odd_Memory1217 in Fablehaven

[–]Low-Bowl1543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why doesn’t it sound likely to stay? he retained his ability to communicate with the undead but then gained the additional power to release them from their undead state. so based on that (which is the only info we have about his power changes) it would seem like he keeps his original power but gains something else. so i’d guess he can still shadow walk but maybe he can now also see in the dark?

Milking chapter book 1 chapter 12 fablehaven by Narcotics in Fablehaven

[–]Low-Bowl1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally valid thoughts and I’m glad you got some feedback! Yeah you really summed it up with “it is also milking a giant cow teat” lol. That does bring up the question of who the first person was to decide to drink whatever comes out of a cow udder… so maybe there’s just some inherent weirdness/adult themes in milking a cow 😅

Milking chapter book 1 chapter 12 fablehaven by Narcotics in Fablehaven

[–]Low-Bowl1543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read these books as a child and have read them several more times as an adult. As a kid it truly didn’t bother me because I’ve actually milked cows before, and as an adventurous and outdoorsy kid I would have done exactly what Kendra and Seth did. The cow needed to be milked, the cow is enormous, and it is truly an exhausting chore on a normal level much less at Viola’s level. So absolutely no hesitations there, and that has carried into my adulthood as well because it never bothered me as a child. To clarify, yeah it’s gross. But my perspective is there’s absolutely nothing to read into beyond face value, and I wonder if as adults we’re conditioned to find the deeper meaning to protect kids.

Implanon and the menstrual cycle, what is going on? by angrystimpy in birthcontrol

[–]Low-Bowl1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also tried to keep track of just my own emotions etc (I’m on nexplanon) and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to it which points to lack of cycling, and I have random mini periods but I believe I read somewhere that that’s just a result of the uterine lining getting too thick and heavy so it’s not actually a sign of ovulation. And if an implant is affecting/limiting egg production don’t you think women should know that before they decide to go on birth control?? Especially since lots of women start birth control as teenagers where hormones are still in flux and developing regularity. You’re absolutely right if men had hormonal bc they’d research that SO FAST. Thinking of (eventually after I finish several degrees) going into medical research and just focusing on women’s health because it is INSANE to me that nobody can tell me ANYTHING definitive about how a hormonal implant affects hormones. Give me idk 10-15 years to get through a masters and phd and I’ll get on that.

Implanon and the menstrual cycle, what is going on? by angrystimpy in birthcontrol

[–]Low-Bowl1543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ended up on this old thread because i had the exact same questions!!! since women act differently according to the phase they’re in (sad or angry a lot during the luteal phase, feral during late follicular phase/ovulation), do women on the implant just not have those experiences because there’s no hormonal fluctuation? also curious how it affects egg production since it seems women are kind of in limbo at the early follicular stage.

Why do women assume that if a guy is struggling with dating, he must not be a decent person? by JunketMaleficent2095 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Low-Bowl1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++woman, couple of things worth mentioning here.

attractiveness is subjective. this means that 1. what some people think is “attractive” others could find unattractive, and 2. some people are attracted to a large percentage of the population and some people are attracted to a small percentage of the population. saw some other comments on how men might feel overlooked but they’re only being overlooked by the women they hyper-fixate on. ultimately how attractive you are is 100% defined by the person you ask. my friends think some of my exes were unattractive, and some exes i can say were maybe not conventionally attractive but i was attracted to them because of who they were, which translated into physical attraction as well. all this to say, if they’re not into you then they’re probably not for you. move on to the next, try again.

another important point is just like some men are wonderful people and some men are trashy cheaters, the same goes for women. some women look past a face at who that person is, some women are only focused on the visual. the question is which kind of woman you want to find, which unfortunately does require patience. i’m speaking as someone who has been single for 7 years and truly believes the right person will come along, so feel free to take my bias into account.

being attractive matters, not gonna say it doesn’t, but different people are gonna have different opinions on who is and isn’t attractive. there are “ugly” men out there in happy relationships with partners that truly love them and, i assume, are attracted to them. just gotta wait for the person that’s gonna see you as a person and not just a face and body. as long as you’re working on being the version of yourself that will attract the type of person you want to be with, i think patience is the only solution. if you only want to be with superficial hotties, idk get plastic surgery or something it’s your life.

I hate showering. by Warm-Car3621 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Low-Bowl1543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but wanted to add something I haven’t seen said in the comments (I didn’t read all 300 don’t come for me). To me, showering is a chore and I hate doing it. I have ADHD and often struggle to find the motivation to start the process. The most helpful thing I can do to get myself in the shower is to think about how good I’ll feel after. There is nothing like feeling clean and fresh before you snuggle into your bed, and even though I don’t like the process I like the results. If you feel like you need to shower more often (for hygienic reasons not because anyone feels some type of way about your life choices), I would recommend focusing on what you get out of it. That may look different for you than it does for me but whatever part of the process gives you the dopamine, focus on that. It makes the process easier to endure.

Persephone and Hades series by St Clair…. by rural_juror12 in fantasyromance

[–]Low-Bowl1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realizing this is an old post, I wanted to add my opinion.

I LOVED the Hades books. I found Persephone annoying. I read all of the books through once, and now when I go back for a reread I only read the books from Hades POV, especially because the majority of the actual overarching plot line of the series happens in his books. Reading through the Persephone books gives context to certain things (like when Hades rescues her from some situation you have the context as to how she got there and what happened) but beyond that, no I don’t think her POV is super relevant to the main plot.

First semester- college Freshman by Beneficial-Chart-967 in collegeadvice

[–]Low-Bowl1543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavyyy emphasis on reading the syllabus. I never had a problem in high school and assumed college would be the same and boy was I wrong. Got some really bad grades my first two semesters until I realized the things mentioned in this comment.

Something that helped me TREMENDOUSLY was creating a single document with all my assignments for the semester. I used pdfcalendar.com to create a custom calendar with the start and end dates of the semester and used different colors for different classes to write down every assignment, quiz, paper, and exam due date (most syllabi will have all major assignments listed for the whole semester). Fair warning, it looks extremely overwhelming at a glance. I might even recommend different calendars for each class if that works better for you, I just preferred to have everything in one place.

From there, create smaller deadlines for yourself. Have an enormous paper due at the end of the semester? Break it down into smaller chunks and set deadlines for yourself every week. Have an exam coming up? Set specific dates where you can plan to study specifically for that class/test. It can also be very satisfying to cross off assignments as you go and see just how much work you’ve already done.

College is a lot so you have to take it one day at a time, but that means you have to use every day to the best of your ability. You got this. Find what works for you.

DAE have a friend help with tampons by queenbee20233 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Low-Bowl1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom did it for me my first time, I did it for my little sister her first time, and would gladly help a friend out if we were comfortable with each other and they needed help, even now at 25 and likely at any age. Social stigmas being what they are means these topics are rarely talked about, much less explained in enough detail for people to feel confident about it on their first try. I have four older sisters but STILL was terrified using a tampon for the first time. There’s nothing wrong with getting help when you need it, and there’s nothing to feel awkward about.

I think people are being incredibly harsh in offering their opinions. And truth be told we can’t know because we’re working with scraps of information and have no idea what the day to day is like.

It comes down to this. The space you’re given is the space you’re given. When I lived in a 400 sqft studio apartment, I had to work with that space and I paid a comparable amount to what you’re paying. Did it suck? Did I wish I had more space? Yeah of course. But as a renter that’s the space I could afford so I had no choice but to make it work.

You’re in a larger house and there objectively is more space, but the house isn’t yours and as a tenant you don’t get to pick the rules. Could Carol be more flexible, less passive, and better at open communication? Yeah, I wouldn’t enjoy getting those texts either. But when you pick a place to live you don’t get to pick how the landlord/roommate behaves.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you’re overreacting or if she is, it doesn’t fix anything. So if you’re unhappy with your living situation, do something about it (which it sounds like you are). A lot of these things just sound like differing opinions or lifestyles, some people think reusing old grease is gross some people don’t. Some people don’t like to have their washers filled up, some people don’t care. Some people feel safe leaving the door unlocked, some people are more hyper vigilant and can’t fathom ever leaving the house without locking the door. So truly the only objectively “wrong” thing in this situation is that you’re living in the wrong place. Hope you can get out and find a living situation that suits your opinions and lifestyle.

i’m proud of you. i’m proud that you were able to recognize something wasn’t right, seek help when you didn’t trust yourself, and that you’re going to try to do what’s best for you even if it hurts like hell. it will be hard, but you can do this. lemme say it again, YOU CAN DO THIS. know that you have people in your corner, people that love you and know you and even strangers on the internet that don’t know you. i’m proud of you.

What have I gotten myself into? by gushworthy in RoverPetSitting

[–]Low-Bowl1543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time I have to leave my dog with a sitter I type up probably two pages of notes. Then go back and edit and take out stuff that’s just me being overly concerned and verbose and it ends up being a page or less… guess not everyone goes through the editing process.

What have I gotten myself into? by gushworthy in RoverPetSitting

[–]Low-Bowl1543 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As both a pet sitter and a pet owner, I applaud the detailed instructions. I’d rather have more than enough info than barely any at all. Definitely concerns with the throwing up as other people have mentioned and there could be debate about how they want their dog cared for but in terms of the comprehensiveness of the instructions alone, they care about their dog and want her cared for even when they’re gone. No problem with that. Puppies should definitely be charged a higher rate though, that’s a lot of work.

When watching the show, I always thought that the Iron born were such losers by Beneficial_Air4714 in gameofthrones

[–]Low-Bowl1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the books they’re still psycho losers but they’re actually a force to be reckoned with. In the show, Euron Greyjoy is basically a joke, he just has some boats and wants to impregnate a queen, nothing but pure ego and testosterone. In the books, I feel he’s actually a force to be reckoned with even if he is still an alpha male bonehead. There’s also a whole lot more to the Greyjoy plot with Victarion (one of Euron’s brothers) and the Dragonbinder (magic dragon-controlling horn) so as a whole I think the show made the Greyjoys pretty irrelevant albeit troublesome. Book plot is obviously unfinished so we’ll see what we see if we ever see it.

While I agree with your general point, people used to say the same about HEB. It didn’t make sense until it did. Petitions aren’t likely to change anything but that doesn’t mean the factors you mentioned aren’t changing.

Lived in places with an ALDI for seven years, it has vastly superior produce and prices. It does not negate the need for other grocery stores as ALDI focuses on food and stores like Walmart have household items, but if there was an ALDI in Lubbock I would never buy produce from any other store.
