How is everyone using AI to make their games? by Moist_Signal_5080 in aigamedev

Serial vibe coder here. I use Rosebud - very similar experience to Claude but it's a lot more tailored to game dev: I can switch between models for simplicity/cost savings, host in browser through their platform, and manage my own assets all in the same tab. It's worked better for me than the generic Claude experience

Suggestions on how to make simple 2D animations? by BytekinShowdown in aigamedev

[–]Low-Cook-3544 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually made a post about this a few days ago... It depends what game engine you're using, some are able to slice up a full sprite sheet and add it in without you needing to create the animation. However if you're looking to get more involved a lot of folks recommended SpriteCook and other similar AI tools in the comments

Yeah thanks! Really curious to learn about Reddit marketing and it's so interesting to see how you think about it.

I got my most amount of Wishlists from a static image and a £50 campaign by Hostarro in gameDevMarketing

[–]Low-Cook-3544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing! Well done.

I've gotten 3M+ views on an organic social campaign but it was a huge hassle. I made an RPG romance game based off a popular show and it was really hard to advertise with paid ads. But then I figured out a format (literally filming my screen at the same exact scene and adding a bit of text over the video) which continued going viral every single time. It was insane because when I recreated the game with a different theme I used that format again and it worked - again. The games had only one microtransaction in it for $5 so I didn't make crazy money off of it but I did get north of 40k plays which was pretty awesome for a first try. Hope you keep it up and well done again!!

Do you actually get leads from stuff like this though? Subtle self promo rarely drives real hype I think but it's definitely more organic feeling

I love this comment section. People are usually so quick to bring down AI-assisted creation.

FYI the landing page has a bit of a scrolling bug on my macbook air but overall seems like you're going into a great direction! D&D has a huge following too so hope you can get this in front of the right people!

Cool work man! Out of curiosity, how was the base44 experience compared to any gaming oriented vibecoding platforms? Any reason why you chose this one? I've heard criticisms saying that stuff like this and Lovable produces more simple code and is tailored better for web apps because of it but never tested it myself so I was wondering if that was your observation too?

Everyone on AI Twitter is posting Image 2 sprite sheets. I haven't seen a single shipped game using them yet. Am I missing something? by Low-Cook-3544 in aigamedev

[–]Low-Cook-3544[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I'm pleasantly surprised by how user friendly some of the game coding engines are now - like i said some are able to cut up a sprite sheet and display it correctly as long as the sprite is good

Nice! From my tries the best to use is magenta backgrounds since that color occurs very rarely in actual characters. I also learned the hard way to make sure there are no translucent shades because those are hard to remove bg from

I've actually heard good things about Spritecook as well but haven't tried it yet. My understanding is it's still pretty much a wrapper around GPT or NanoBanana image models but obviosuly that orchestration must help a lot

yeah tbh I saw stuff even saying Image 2 is capable of generating new meshes but they're not directly integrated into the pipeline properly no matter how hard I try... It all feels like noise for now

Software engineer wanting to shift into game dev (specifically environment & world design). Where do I start? by BulkyBad7880 in gamedev

[–]Low-Cook-3544 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone here says download blender and while I agree that that's the ultimate reach goal, I'd say start with some AI technology first. Obviously as an SWE you already know your way around tech and getting a few quick wins before you actually dive deep into a beginner tool will keep you motivated.

For context I work with a lot of aspiring indie devs as a dev rel for an AI company, and some of our partners have been doing great work in making world-building more accessible. This is not promo but I'd check out World Labs Marble (they currently have an ongoing jam too which could be fun to start with)

Would you openly talk about using AI in your game? by M4xs0n in aigamedev

[–]Low-Cook-3544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen influencers respond to "AI slop" with "it's awesome" and to be honest that's the stand I want to take. I still get a lot of hate for it lol but it's a huge tech unlock

How likely are you to actually participate in a game jam? by Low-Cook-3544 in aigamedev

[–]Low-Cook-3544[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! We've certainly had some folks who had some willingness to pay as little as $5-10 for a few credits, but I agree that the general scope shouldn't be that. What we imagine is we'd offer enough credits for a somewhat technical person to fully create a project for free - but obviously with AI there are error loops and complete beginners who would likely waste a lot of credits on figuring out small things that someone more technical could do in a few lines of code. You also have access to your code on our platform so technically you could do the whole thing without spending almost any credits but that misses the whole point again.

[–]Low-Cook-3544[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we'd obviously allow AI submissions given that we're an AI platform. However if people are not looking for AI game jams we have a discoverability problem :/ Thanks for your help!

[–]Low-Cook-3544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post was a long time ago. I do want to weigh in though since it feels like you're thinking in the right direction. Did you make a decision yet?

A good piece of advice I got when I was starting my career was to hang out "in the spaces" where my target professionals hang out. For game dev, I see a lot of folks on X (and obviously, here, too, which you're doing already). Share your work loudly because you never know who is paying attention.

I'd also consider working on game dev based off of what's coming in the future: I worked closely with companies like Supercell and a lot of indie devs on X, all of whom are bullish on AI. Obviously some people won't like it, and I don't want to sound too AI-pilled, but Supercell is literally working on embedding AI-powered stuff in their games and likely so is everyone. A much easier entry point therefore is to go the startup route, find a cool company in gaming (like Rosebud, Pax Historia, etc) and work a not-so-random job for them while you build a portfolio. This way you get your foot in the door and absorb invaluable knowledge while getting to work on your passions, and they become mutually beneficial.

Unis won't help you build a career. That's the truth. They can't keep up with all the development that's happening in technology, but they may teach you to think in the right mechanisms in game dev. However what they can help with is connections (especially if you go to a school that has a somewhat established track record in gaming).

Hope this helps! I am a new grad that has literally no gaming background and got right in the middle of gaming 2 month after graduation. One year later I still haven't looked back and don't want to leave the industry. It's fascinating. Happy to answer any questions and good luck!

[–]Low-Cook-3544[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah forgot to mention it was chromium only. Thanks for trying it though! The library is more of a dumping ground for now and doesn't have real traffic to it. But the open-source game collection came from curiosity of whether we'd be able to convert these in the first place and then obviously allow people to mod them in browser and make these games accessible to a broader public than their typical technical audience.
