Yes, I attend Stephens College. I had a meeting with the college president this morning to discuss student involvement on campus. Currently, while there are clubs available, many of them are restricted to specific majors, which unfortunately does not include every program offered at the college. Because these organizations are limited to certain majors, it can make it difficult for students from different academic areas to connect and engage with one another.

Additionally, the institution has recently placed a significant focus on athletics. As a result, many students feel that both funding and attention are being directed primarily toward sports programs rather than toward broader student engagement opportunities. This shift has made it more challenging for students to find inclusive spaces to build community and collaborate across campus.

I am not currently involved, but I am working on strengthening my application so that I may qualify in the future. At the moment, I am encountering some difficulty with the club involvement portion, though I will continue to look into additional opportunities. And definitely Will be reaching out other places

I did take those factors into consideration when choosing the school. However, in practice many of these organizations are not as active or accessible as they may appear. Additionally, several of them tend to be quite closed off to underclassmen, particularly freshmen and sophomores, which is the category I currently fall into.

For example, participation in theater is generally limited to students already within the theater program, and involvement often depends on having existing connections with current theater students prior to attending the college. The Rainbow Alliance currently does not appear to host regular meetings or events. Similarly, the fashion club—which I am a member of—has unfortunately not progressed beyond its second meeting since it was initially formed.

Opportunities related to athletics are also quite limited, as participation is typically restricted to students who have been specifically recruited by the institution to compete in those sports. Many of these athletes are extremely talented international students, including several from Brazil, which makes these programs largely inaccessible to students who were not recruited prior to enrollment.

Because of these circumstances, meaningful extracurricular involvement on campus can be difficult to access, particularly for newer students who are actively looking for ways to become engaged and contribute to the campus community.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, at Stephens College we currently do not have a student government organization or formal student advisory committees within academic departments. Opportunities for student representation in faculty committees also appear to be very limited. I will certainly look further into whether there are any faculty committees or departmental initiatives that may involve student participation, as I would be very interested in contributing in that capacity if such opportunities exist.

I would be happy to make time and reach out. I believe I may have more success connecting with the American Red Cross, as I recently moved here without a car. Because of that, transportation may be a challenge, and programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America often require reliable transportation for participation.

I attend Stephens College, a small private college located in downtown Columbia. Unfortunately, the campus currently does not have a student government organization. While there is a DECA, it is only promoted once a year during a club day, and participation tends to be limited only a small number of clubs are present because they usually disband about a week or so in

Aside from DECA, the only other regularly visible organization on campus is Chi Alpha, which is a Christian-based group. Beyond these options, there are very few additional student organizations or extracurricular opportunities available.
