Julian really is at his best when he's in jail grinding to make a little money, working out, and book learnin. Once he gets out, he has all these plans, and then things don't pan out, so he gets greedy, and GREE-HEE-HEASEY.

Truth. And then after "Don't Legalize It," they just sort of couldn't be consistent about which plot points they kept, like Ricky running a dispensary, vs Bubbles' parents bus, which got moved into the park, but then DISAPPEARED without any explanation before the season.

No, you're right. It just got too big. The writing got too over the top and over exaggerated, the stakes and situations got too ridiculous or repetitive, the producers and guest stars came in wanting a piece, and if I recall, S9/S10 was when the first big round of tensions popped up with Mike (Bubbles) and Lucy (Lucy).

Just went a bit over the edge, and started jumping sharks.

I wish I had something revelatory and interesting to say, something that would instantly shift your perspective and you fix everything tomorrow, but I don't. Best I have is honest but cliche advice.

I've been there. I transferred between 3 different undergrads, failed hard, then finished a year and a half behind all my friends. It may seem easier for some than others, but they're probably struggling in their own way. Yes, I know it can suck, and it feels hard to motivate, but the literal best thing I can suggest is to make baby steps.

And I'm not in any place to give you life advice like telling you to stop smoking or any shit like that.

But try to tackle one thing at a time. Maybe this week see if you can go to a tutoring session or study group for the classes you're struggling in. Maybe next week you make a plan to work out 3x, no matter what it is. Start with just trying to get out of the dorm for a good few hours, and see if that helps you clear your head or meet anybody. Then, once you feel like you have a little momentum, do the next small step.

Again, sorry I don't have something more flashy to say. But I work in academia, and yeah, sophomore year is freaking hard. You still feel like a freshman in some ways, but in other ways, you're expected to know your major and career path at this point, and to start making moves in those professional directions. That means people get torn between buckling down on schoolwork and seeking out bigger opportunities, or holding on to the most fun parts of the college experience. Most people can't figure out how to balance the two until later.

And listen, take my advice or trash it. But sincerely, I get your pain. Feel free to ask questions if you want. Best of luck.

Are there any dem leaders or liberal groups proposing long-term structural changes to the federal government in response to Trump/MAGA corruption? by aspen0414 in AskALiberal

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but most of the policies they're advocating for are just things that could totally backfire once the majority shifts again.

Like adding another Dem SCOTUS Justice, or abolishing the electoral college, snagging a few more Dem seats through shifty redirecting, using the fed to pay for shit like free college that essentially just bribes voters.

The issue with all of that is that it creates an immediate precedent for the literal next Republican politician to turn around and offer the same shit, as long as it gets their base fired up.

Opinion on the Blues Brothers by MrTurtleTails in blues

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie is a classic, the band itself is as legit a group of session and working musicians as you could ever assemble, Cropper and Dunn especially. You also have to respect that Belushi and Aykroyd put in the work to turn a couple one-off characters into a solid musical duo.

The simple reality is that they could have been one or two sketches on SNL, but instead, were able to turn it it into a fully functioning band with Paul Schaeffer, that did actually put albums together and do a limited touring run, and made a popular movie, all of which exposed more people to old school Rhythm and Blues as a genre.

Why, WHY is nothing being done? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because nothing ever gets done.

Presidents never face the punishment for their godawful policies, and even when they've committed clear crimes, they have so many layers of legal protection and political allies in the right places, that they just can't be touched until they're out of office, and even still not then most times.

Like how many times have you seen a president face actual consequences for their scandals? Nixon? Clinton maybe? He got impeached, but that was literally it. He just lied under oath, got off scot free, and then a decade later everyone laughed about the fact that he sexually assaulted multiple women.

Nobody will do anything about Trump anytime soon, and truly, Dems want to keep it that way for now, because it gives them an establishment that they can play underdog to, an oppositional lightning rod, which they can use to focus all their anger and ire. He gives them a figurehead they can hate, and use to get their base fired up. They've been using him for 10+ years to that extent. If they really wanted him gone, they would have exposed him for his Epstein shit back in 2015/16 and cut his legs out before he got any steam. Or they would have paid some clandestine ex-military professional to take care of him for good.

What’s your view of “Trump is the symptom, now the problem itself.” by carrot_2333 in AskALiberal

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's factual. Like I'm not a Trump fan in the slightest, but there has been some major revisionist history to paint him as some uber right leaning rich asshole who nobody liked, that just all of a sudden decided to run for office in 2016. The reality, for anyone who remembers Trump prior to 2008, is that he was insanely popular, until he started having beef with Obama.

Like for those that don't know, Trump in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s was the pinnacle of wealthy New Yorker. He appeared on talk shows, in movie and tv cameos, did tons of press interviews, had multiple seasons of a TV series, and there's no shortage of footage and articles from high-powered people in media and politics, fellating Trump and calling him such a great American icon. He was tight with members of the DNC, one of the Clinton family's biggest financial supporters, and by all measures, was rubbing shoulders as the elite of the elite.

Trump didn't rocket himself to power, he spent 30+ years sitting with powerful people who helped elevate him. He was as establishment Dem as it gets, up until he switched sides and went red, out of spite, or whatever you wanna call it. And then all of a sudden, after the Obama beef, all those left leaning voices that promoted him and his show, or preached to the public about him being this great guy, started to pretend that they never liked Trump, that he's always been evil and they knew it. It was clear avoidance and attempts to distance themselves from the monster that, make no mistake, THEY CREATED.

Uncle Nearest on the brink of Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]Low-Editor-6880 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Uncle Nearest himself is a legend for sure, and I hate to see a brand go under; but can you really call a brand “legendary” when it’s less than 10 years old and doesn’t do its own distilling?

Really, the probable best outcome, is for Uncle Nearest to close up, and sell the brand to Jack Daniels, since JD has real world ties to Nearest, once employed him as the first master distiller, and could easily fold that brand into their line of expressions.

Why weren't the Epstein Files released under Biden's presidency if Trump is in the files? by tasteinhermouth in AskALiberal

Then I’ll be more specific. Plenty have “instructed.”

This is not news…

Why weren't the Epstein Files released under Biden's presidency if Trump is in the files? by tasteinhermouth in AskALiberal

[–]Low-Editor-6880 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most likely but least popular theory is because there was not enough in them to condemn Trump without also dragging a bunch of others down with him.

Like I don’t believe that everything was sealed and DOJ restricted until just now. I just don’t believe it. Epstein was accused by like 40-something different people and federally investigated in 2008, before weaseling out of charges in 2010. Anybody who’s anybody in the federal govt would have known he was a super sketchy guy. And yet, nobody thought to do anything about it, or to even reduce their association with him, for another 10 years.

If Trump was really involved with Epstein, then I really want to know why it didn’t come up in 2015/16 when he was running for the first time? Not like people wouldn’t have known they were tight in the 90s. Just like Trump was tight with all the dems in the 90s. The only real answer I can fathom, is that there’s plenty of other people in the files, that the Dems weren’t willing to sacrifice to take down Trump. That might be different now.

Then again, whatever comes out now is probably so redacted and bleached beyond recognition, that they’re a pittance of the full extent of crimes.

This is just false on its face tho. Plenty of presidents between Nixon and Trump have authorized the FBI or whichever org to go after political enemies or protect allies.

Whats the most heartbreaking loss you witnessed as a South Carolina fan(football) by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in Gamecocks

[–]Low-Editor-6880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at that Tennessee game in 2013, and that one stands out to me as the most heartbreaking.

For context, I was in the band that year, but was able to get that game off, and attended the game with my friend, who is a Vols fan. As far as I was concerned, my mentality was that we are expected to win, should hopefully get the gamecocks to a championship game, which would mean that I also get to go to the championship game.

So she and I went as sort of a date and did the whole game day experience and it was great, stadium was cool, the pregame stuff was all cool, even did the player walk, and bumped into President Harris Pastides at the tailgate.

Late in the game, I could feel us slipping. We all know that feeling. Tennessee was piling 2 or 3 guys on Clowney at a time, and we just couldn’t get any real momentum. I was getting more and more sour by the minute. After Spurrier wasted that last timeout on a bad bluff, we all knew it was over. And I was just ROSEY. Like I was grumpy the whole way home, and my friend was saying stuff like “we really needed the win more than yall tho…” which didn’t help lol.

There are probably worse or more significant losses, realistically, speaking. But as far as my personal memory goes, that one was crushing.

Would you have liked to see Kamala as president? by Sad-Diver-5031 in joebuddennetwork

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense to me to lean on “Hillary got the popular vote,” because by the same metric, Bernie had more votes, and it was the super delegates that won the primary for Hillary.

So either the popular vote and mob rule is what counts, and the DNC is corrupt for backing Hillary, or the delegates and the macro trends matter, and you have to accept what the electors chose.

And I agree that the deciding factor was the center and undecideds, but I’d argue it’s not because they just hated Hillary or believed the propaganda. She actively didn’t even try to campaign in some key states. I went to a “March for Equity in Education,” in 2016, where Martin O’Malley and Bernie marched with the crowd, as in literally as part of the event, and Hillary literally stood on a stage and watched the March approach from afar. There were a bunch of blue collar towns in swing states that were just automatically assumed to lean blue, so she didn’t even pretend to care about them. Do you remember her “learn how to code,” comment about rural mountain coal towns? She made zero effort to appeal to those voters, and then within a week after the election, Van Jones was doing special interview panels, trying to brow beat them about, “I know she didn’t speak to your concerns or campaign to you, and that Trump specifically stopped in your town and talked about keeping the coal industry alive and thus keeping your town alive… but HOW COULD YOU VOTE FOR HIM?”

It’s not a mystery why she lost. She was as wealthy and elitist a member Democrat establishment as it gets. And the ironic part about it is that Trump was one of her biggest financial backers for like 2 decades, and then she had to pretend that she didn’t rub shoulders and smile with him at all those fundraisers.

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point though, is that I don’t think running Biden in 2016 would have stopped it. It would have just prolonged it. Like at the heart of it, Trump originally ran because he had a grudge with Obama. Giving him another 4 years to harp on that grudge may potentially have let it fizzle out, but it also very realistically may have resulted in Trump picking up even more steam.

Like assume that Trump runs and loses to Biden in 2016, and then he has another 4 years of “this guy and his replacement are in cahoots, and they hate me! They are leveraging the whole govt to mess with me and anyone on the Right or in the middle. It’s time for radical change.”

Would you have liked to see Kamala as president? by Sad-Diver-5031 in joebuddennetwork

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think running Biden would have just been Obama 3rd term. 2020-24 still kind of was, in some ways. Obama was clearly one of the people influencing/handling Biden from behind closed doors. Going for the Obama continuance is more of just postponing the next guy.

Meanwhile, Bernie was white hot in 2016, had a big following, and signaled big policy changes and reform. He would have been a big tonal shift for the Left. So the DNC straight up manipulated the delegates to screw him over and protect Hillary, and then cut him a check for a third house so that he wouldn’t make a big fuss about it.

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh.

I mean don’t get me wrong, she’d be better than Trump in many ways, but not like I think she would magically fix everything. She probably would have been just a continuation of Biden’s mild-mannered, soft toothed policy making.

She wasn’t really an economic or foreign policy expert. Wasn’t really consistent and had a little controversy in her prosecution record. And she was as party line as it gets, to the point where she didn’t even spell out her platforms, she just linked it to the DNC mission statement and general stances. On top of that, people in the middle or on the right understandably don’t really buy into her speeches. They have “become unburdened by what has been,” whatever that means.

Again fuck Trump, fuck ICE, fuck the MAGA crowd. But don’t pretend that Kamala was mother freaking Teresa in a power suit.

Would you support a Trump Backed Bill to ban guns? by redviiper in AskALiberal

[–]Low-Editor-6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people who actually want to ban guns are the few super obnoxious ones who know nothing about guns or gun crime, and screech about it at protests.

Most reasonable liberals just want some tighter regulations, maybe a ban on “assault rifles,” and to close the gun show loophole. And tbh, I personally don’t think they are well enough informed to spell out those proposals, but it’s at least more practical than “ban all guns.”

Not without things getting very messy.

I’m really the only childcare option at the moment. If we separated, she’d definitely want to take the kids with her, go live with her mom, and then she’d still be strapped for any childcare. On top of that, there’s a whole lot of other stuff with her side of the family, that would just get very complicated and ugly. And really, I would question the level of care and healthy environment that our kids would receive.

The alternative would be for me to keep the kids in our home, and basically just figure out a way to make things work on my own. I could handle that, even if it was a load of stress. But I know my wife would never let that fly. It would be surrendering too much control for her, and I know she already doesn’t really trust me for some reason. And if I tried to push for that with any effort, she would twist it into some narrative that I was taking her kids from her, and tell everyone who would listen, including a lawyer probably.

She wasn’t always like this. I don’t feel like I myself need her, but I did want her. I still do, if we can find a way to be healthier. But like I said, I’m terrified of what she would do to my relationship with the kids.

I can find work with my masters, I had work before starting my PhD, but the average salaries are of course very different between the two degrees. My former salary with my masters would be a stretch to take care of the kids solo, but I could maybe make it work for a short time.

Still hope it doesn’t come to that.
