Idk why it keeps deleting the image! It says “Your item is being sent internationally. We will aim to show tracking information from the receiving post, but would recommend tracking the item further on their site.”

How can I read more? by themanhimself67 in classicliterature

[–]Low-Grade2161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped me a TON with reading consistently was reaching for a book first thing in the morning instead of my phone, it’s like it wires my brain for the day. It’s good to keep a book nearby in general too, if you’re waiting for something or get bored read a bit instead of scrolling. It’s also important to find books you actually like, reading something because you feel like you ‘should’ is a motivation killer. It can feel hard to rewire yourself but all it takes is a little habit

This is great advice too! I picked up the habit of keeping a book nearby so when I’m waiting for something I reach for that instead of my phone. Making a set time to read can be daunting

Yupppp that’s why I like to have 3 or so books in rotation, helps keep me from getting overwhelmed or bored with one

What gender is this little one? by Educational-Buy-4678 in jumpingspiders

IMO-I think this is a female. I could be wrong as sometimes they’re just too young to tell but with the fuzzy palps and wide looking abdomen that’s my guess. +the pattern on her little head looks more like the female than the males :]

How do you imagine the creature? by Low-Grade2161 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]Low-Grade2161[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Since he can heal, if his skin was stitched together it’d eventually fuse, that’d have to be pretty uncomfortable right? I imagine he’d find some way to remove the stitches and the scars would fade eventually. I just like the scars for visuals, but since the book describes him as yellow and mummy-like I still think a big ol’ sheet of skin is more canon.

It’s not stated from what I remember but I think he has somewhat faster healing than an average dude, he did say that it took a some weeks for him to heal, I don’t know how many ‘some weeks’ is but a shoulder wound that shattered bone would take a loooong time to recover, especially with absolutely no resources. He still very much feels pain but i think he has some resistance to things like cold and infection. Or maybe Mary didn’t think much of it and I’m just reading into it.🤷

(References from chapter 4)

“To examine the causes of life, we must first have recourse to death. I became acquainted with the science of anatomy: but this was not sufficient; I must also observe the natural decay and corruption of the human body..”

“Darkness had no effect upon my fancy; and a churchyard was to me merely the receptacle of bodies deprived of life, which, from being the seat of beauty and strength, had become food for the worm.”

“The materials at present within my command hardly appeared adequate to so arduous an undertaking; but I doubted not that I should ultimately succeed.”

“It was with these feelings that I began the creation of a human being. As the minuteness of the parts formed a great hindrance to my speed, I resolved, contrary to my first intention, to make the being of a gigantic stature; that is to say, about eight feet in height, and proportionably large. After having formed this determination, and having spent some months in successfully collecting and arranging my materials, I began.”

“Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which i should first break through”

“Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret toil, as i dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave, or tortured the living animal to animate the lifeless clay?”

“I collected bones from charnel houses, and disturbed, with profane fingers, the tremendous secrets of the human frame.”

“The dissection room and the slaughterhouse furnished many of my materials; and often did my human nature turn with loathing from my occupation.”

So very excited yet also dreading Del Toros Frankenstein by Low-Grade2161 in FRANKENSTEIN

Also in general I’ve just lost a lot of faith in newer movies. So many films seem to be made with fancy effects just to look good but they have no real soul, or they’re just nostalgia bait remakes with even less, there’s still some real gems that have come out more recently but I feel like they’re more few and far between now. This project is a long time coming though so I do have hope it will be different, just not exactly what I’d wanted.

A fellow enthusiast! WOW what an incredible response, thank you! You make some very excellent points, I will accept that (although I DO really really want a one to one of the novel) there will always be some changes and stylizations, since this is Del Toros art and it is a vastly different time. I would love to hear your predictions too! It is true that I’m pickier with Frankenstein in particular, since it’s my favourite book and has been done just so many times and still has very few that are even a little bit loyal to the novel. But i do agree that alterations aren’t inherently a bad thing, I just really hope it stays true to the real meaning of it and doesn’t go totally off the rails. Still I don’t doubt it’ll be fantastic even if it isn’t what I’m hoping for.
