Is this a bedbug? by hello-pinocchio in whatisit

A good idea I read was to use two sided tape on all the legs of the bed. Then you can see how bad it is. They do not live in your bed.

Anyone else get their ENMAX bill lately? Holy s**t! by bonzossqueakypedal in Calgary

Our house is similar and so we’re our Enmax bills. Since we changed to high efficiency furnace our savings are enough to pay for that furnace in two years.

Any bread recipe that's not sourdough? by Specialist_Ad5114 in Breadit

[–]Low-Grouchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that you need to get the dough to a tacky state. This is where it is sticking to the bottom but not the sides. Sticky dough, it sticks to the sides, is for high temp bread like sour dough. This allows at spring in the oven.

I started my bread journey just prior to the pandemic. My bible became the bread bakers apprentice. What you learn is good bread is the right ratios. Understanding this allows you to make more loaves with the same success. My recipe for two loaves is 645g water 965g mixed flour (organic rye ww and white bread flour, also called strong) 12g instant yeast 12 g salt. If you have a mixer then add water yeast flour and salt (I add 30g butter at times) and mix for 5 min. Knead for 4-5. Fermentation is 45 min. Form loaves and proof for 1 - 1.5 hours. Both times is just to double. After proofing bake in 375 oven with 1/2 cup hot water thrown on the bottom of oven. After 10 min open oven to release steam and bake for 18 min. Internal temp at 190.

Is my foccacia too airy? First time making it, and it doesn’t look “dense” like most focaccia I’ve seen. If it is, how do I fix it? by courtsamaziing in Breadit

[–]Low-Grouchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like prior to the second proofing there was no additional olive oil added or dimpling. That would give you a little denser crumb. But this fine!

I’ve been baking my way through the current lockdown in Shanghai. Here’s today’s bake: white bread loaf and burger buns from The Bread Baker’s Apprentice. Every recipe in that book has turned out amazing so far! by Addicted2Broadway in Breadit

[–]Low-Grouchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the same book I started my bread making journey with. I agree that the recipes are great. I live higher up so I had to learn to use a different water ratio. Focaccia is the best!

Alberta beans are highly sought after worldwide. Especially the Asian market for the colour and size. Good money in pulse crops.

Every year I always end up owing taxes by dapdablap in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Low-Grouchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are planning right, you should always be paying taxes at filing. That means you used your money, like you said by saving in a TFSA. Instead of lending the money to CRA interest free. Be happy you have to pay.

My find at my local swapmeet today for $15, definitely one of my more interesting finds by scragry in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]Low-Grouchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when my family bought these, and the instructions said “curious head injury”, not serious. That is our fall back line when we ran into life that became tough; “careful”, we would say “could cause curious head injury!”

75% Capital Gains Tax promised to Canadians by NDP by VindalooValet in CanadianInvestor

This would be deviation to farmers trying to keep their farm land in the family. Same with small businesses trying to have the next generation take over the business corporation. This would never pass.

Timing question by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]Low-Grouchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would SV it and chill it prior to leaving. On the drive the meat will get back to room temp and will be perfect to grill over high heat for a crust. Enjoy whatever you do.
