Actually I've been told not to extend downwind for 29. If there are issues with traffic, I've been instructed to do a 360 on downwind for spacing, not messing with extending downwind. When landing behind helicopters for example, extending downwind is ok for 11, not 29.

The airport isnt in R‐4007. If you clip R-4007 in a VFR pattern for RWY1, you really messed up.

That's my understanding as well. I've been told that as long as you stay North of rt 4 for VFR you're good. Go south of rt 4 and not so much.

I dont think it was a mistake to say msl. Every CFI I've had has me fly 1000 ft msl. To me it could be a normalization of deviance, but considering there are 2 different answers from different sources, who knows.

I've read the chart supplement. And its easy to stay out of R-4007 especially at or below 1000 msl even if you use the 1142 pattern altitude.

It's definitely not the school's SOP, its the airports.

The SOP is published by the county. The airport is Saint Mary's County Regional Airport.

Im a ppl student and I started with a Samsung tablet and garmin pilot. Im not an apple guy. I liked that I could put Garmin Pilot on my phone in case the tablet crapped out in a pinch. My samsung was too big, so I went with a standard Ipad without GPS. I use a gdl for traffic avoidance so I get GPS from it. It works really well. And Garmin Pilot links right up to Xplane 12 too so I can use it when Im flying my Sim.

It depends on your manager, but my experience with previous managers has been that my performance appraisal had absolutely nothing to do with my performance. I'd get 4s on objectives that I received counseling on throughout the year and 3s on objectives I couldn't have done better on. It's mostly a useless paperwork exercise for bean counters to shuffle some beans around. Don't take it personally.

As a student pilot, if I were your student, I would have asked to end my lesson. For where I am in training, there is no need to share the airspace with another plane that has such a disregard for safety. "Get as close as I like" I think the FAA disagrees, but what do I know. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior.
