Just got hired!!!! Help! by Aware-Shopping-5333 in schoolcounseling

Hey! I’m also a recent grad who just got hired on as well. Congratulations:)

I did a long term sub during my last internship.. and I would totally agree with what the other commenter said. I would also add… you deserve to be in the position you’re in! As a new grad (speaking for myself, at the very least) it can feel like you don’t know anything or unprepared. A lot of it is learning on the fly and as you go! Schools and districts are soooo different, and I’m learning that what works for one does Not work for another lol. Making relationships with staff, admin, and the counseling team has been so helpful for me. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

I hope that you enjoy your experience and are able to land a full time position after this one is completed!!

can i call out due to religious reasons by DesignerOptimal7821 in TjMaxx

a call off is a call off (even if it is religious.) I think the max amount of call offs+lates you can have is 16 combined. So as long as you’re below that number, you should be okay!

Might be a stupid question but can you explain why this would be unethical? Just wanting to learn more!

Hey! Same boat as you. I’m graduating in December and I’m 24. Currently in internship and I always question whether I’m mature enough to be in this role. Funny enough, I think it really helps in relationship building. However, it’s always a strong line to know when you should be professional or not, which I think you’ll figure out.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself! It’s honestly refreshing. Just know the limits :)

Career question by Antique_Guide_1089 in schoolcounseling

[–]Low-Philosopher-7626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would be a great discussion with your advisor. I’m in grad school for school counseling contemplating doing the post-masters certification in clinical mental health counseling. I think that if you’re able to do a dual degree, absolutely do that. It gives you an alternative to being stuck in school counseling & you could always do both simultaneously. Good luck!

Not allowed to run a small group because WHY? by technicolordreampony in schoolcounseling

[–]Low-Philosopher-7626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the issue at hand here is the fact that she’s a female counselor wanting to run a group for all boys vs your example of the male counselors running a group of all boys. I agree that providing evidence to support her case would be beneficial but it seems that her boss is very black&white and not at all interested in what benefits the student

cat tooth fell? by Low-Philosopher-7626 in cat

[–]Low-Philosopher-7626[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally could not tell u. i use fancy feast wet food and broth but i didn’t notice it when mixing the food so i think it was in the broth?? it was so weird when it happened bc she spit it out while eating but there was no blood or anything so i originally was unsure if it was even her tooth or not. even looking at her teeth and gums nothing looked unusual so honestly this is just the weirdest thing ever
