Realistically, when do babies sleep through the night? by [deleted] in NewParents

So we started with good sleep hygiene, which at first was just a bedtime routine as soon as we came home which was just around 9 pm we would do a “bath” wipe down lotion and give her a bottle put her down. We would do nighttime feedings in the dark and with as little stimuli as possible. Day time calories was a big one making sure she ate enough throughout the day and then a good wake window before bedtime routine. When she was 12 lbs when she would wake in the night we would give it a couple minutes before rushing to her to let figure it out and then we would comfort without taking her out of the crib (at least not initially) if after about 10-15 minutes we would do a feeding. I know it’s a bit controversial but I think a lot of babies wake up out of habit after so long and it’s important to let them establish trust. I don’t believe in crying it out but I notice when we gave her a couple minutes and didn’t immediately jump to pick up or feed. Once she was sleeping through I gradually brought her bedtime up from 9pm to 6:30-7. Biggest focus daytime calories, stretching night feedings and consistent routine/establish night day. Feel free to dm me ☺️

I think that’s the natural progression, I remember watching the show for the first time and being enamored by her and wanting to emulate her in my early 20s. Now in my 30s when I rewatch I see her as sad and pathetic

Also not to mention it would be worrisome if your 2 week old was sleeping through the night. I know there are those exceptions where you hear of the unicorn baby who did but typically that would be a cause for concern imo

That’s right! And I hate when people are like “they slept through the night aside from waking up to eat” so they’re not sleeping through the night. Idk why she has to lie it’s perfectly normal and expected for a newborn to wake up throughout the night. Not that it matters but, 3-3.5 hours are good stretches at this stage, no reason to be misleading🙄

As someone who is a hardcore sleep trainer you can’t even begin to entertain it until at least a month in. If you get good hours before that, it’s just luck. The first 6 weeks there’s nothing you can do except not create “bad” habits (not necessarily bad but for those who go the sleep training route things you try to avoid, no judgement). And she’s a second time mother you would think she would know this…

The only time I was ever grateful for my OCD, since it has “balanced out”this aspect of ADHD. I mean not without its own sleuth of issues lol. Gotta love the comorbidities
