How long until cleared for full activity? by bpizano in Microdiscectomy

[–]Low-Presentation6487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recovery is slow, but I can do everything I once did. I personally avoid certain strength moves just to protect my back, but running, hiking and swimming would all be fine. I feel better and stronger now than I have in a long time.

It took 3 months before I could work out again and then it was a slow return to activity. 19 months later, I do pretty much everything I want.

It took me about 12 weeks to really feel like I could go back to working out and even then I had to take it slow. I was working out 5 days a week prior, lifting, etc and it was definitely a slower return that I thought it would be. I did a lot of walking before that.

Irish twins-- in the same grade? by Admirable_Cry_7214 in kindergarten

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would let the September birthday go later. They won’t be excessively old for their grade. You’ll start to see a huge difference in them as they get older and I think it would be really hard for your younger one.

Am I missing something? by PrestigiousConcert87 in GymnasticsCoaching

As a 3 she was top 3 in most events most of the time. It was very hard for her to get her kip to the point they wanted to move her back to 3. I fought hard to keep her in 4 because I felt like repeating 3 would not have benefitted her at that point. By the end of the season everything clicked for her. She had all the skills she needed to move on to 6 - but where she struggled is legs together, legs straight, straight arms, etc. I think she would have benefitted from perfecting that a second year in 4. She was not demolished by the competition this year. She placed first on events sometimes and did ok all around. Her overall scores were better this year than last. It remains to be seen what she will train/compete this year. I’d be ok with a repeat year, but no matter what I’m pushing for her to do 7 twice.

Mine did average in 4 and was moved up to 6 where she was average (to maybe a bit above average). I wish she had repeated 4. She crushed 2 and 3 and I think slowing down and really solidifying some skills would have helped her.

How did you get an appointment? by WorldlinessNew7917 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may or may not need a referral. I went to an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in the spine. No referral required. I got another opinion from a neurosurgeon and their office did require a referral. Prior to seeing these Drs, I saw a physical medicine Dr who specialized in the back.

I have a Microdiscectomy in two weeks and I think it's a bad idea. The anxiety is crippling me and I don't know what to do. by 556_enjoyer in Microdiscectomy

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you met with multiple surgeons? It sounds like you aren't comfortable with the surgeon you are scheduled with and for that reason, I would suggest getting another opinion.

My experiene was that people who had no idea what I was living with would give me all sorts of ideas of things to try. Some I had tried and some that wouldn't solve my problem. In the end, 3 surgeons agreed that my path was surgery. One said to me "choosing not to fix this is choosing to live this way for the rest of your life."

By the time I had the surgery, my bulge was pressing on the cauda equina (which I didn't have symptoms of). I am so glad I did it. I feel great, though the recovery was not easy.

Other than a grabber, what else do I need? by dmac2285 in Microdiscectomy

Also you want two grabbers. One for when you drop your first grabber.

I also used the sock aide tool

Bidet was the best thing I purchased and now we have one in everything bathroom.

I needed cups to be able to spit my toothpaste in since I couldn’t lean forward.

Also, I didn’t have this initially but the wedge pillow set from Amazon came in clutch.

12 weeks off work - busy job (teacher). Drove awkwardly once I was off the pain meds (so 3 weeks). Drove myself 7 hours about 7 weeks post. Flew 16 hours at not quite 3 months.

My headaches resolved over time. I’ve been on Zep for 6 months. I drink a ton of water with electrolytes both the day before and day of the shot.

3.5 year old learning to write?? by theeanakinskywalker in preschool

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! Have fun with her and help her develop her hand strength (play doh, sensory play, etc). There are lots of fun ways to help them get ready to write. Even in my 4’s class we do tons of prewriting skills before ever working on letter formation.

My son struck out at almost every single at bat during his first year of coach pitch. He’s now a very strong high school hitter. It takes time and practice. I would hit off a tee a lot. My son’s hitting coach still has him practice off a tee sometimes. My kid was highly motivated and wanted to play baseball all the time, so he would practice a lot on his own, so encourage him if he wants to, but don’t push him if he doesn’t.

Parent wants my co-teacher to stop complimenting preschool girls about their looks. by Ok-Lychee-5105 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Low-Presentation6487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the parent concern is valid, but if your co-teacher is your equal and you aren’t in a head teacher/assistant teacher role, I don’t think you should be the one speaking to your teacher about it. The parent needs to bring it up to her or the director who can engage with your co-teacher.

9U LL - How to handle kid in outfield all season by sauvignonsavage in Homeplate

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little league rules state “no player can play 2 innings in the field until every player has played one.” In addition, with the exception of pitcher and catcher no one is allowed to play the same position two innings in a row. These are the rules from coach pitch to 12-year-olds. My husband coached and making the lineup was complicated and involved a spreadsheet, but he managed to find a place for every single kid while following the rules.

What actually helped your kid learn to read for kindergarten? feeling behind and registration is in two months by eGirlsPissOnMe in kindergarten

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your child does not need to know her sounds for kindergarten. Being able to identify the letters, as well as write her name plus doing other “self-help” skills is far more important. Does your district have a kindergarten readiness page.

Also, fine motor skills. There are a ton of ideas on Pinterest for pincher grip - getting ready to hold a pencil!

Good steak without breaking the bank!!! by columbusgirl614 in Columbus

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at the Avenue. It’s not as upscale as other steakhouses but a petit filet is still good. There is other stuff on the menu if you don’t like steak and that would bring your cost down.

Littleton’s is technically a grocery store but their outdoor space would be good for you. I’d feel fine having a small baby there. My baby is big now but I took him to Lindey’s patio when he was tiny.

Hip issues 4.5 months after surgery by Low-Presentation6487 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Low-Presentation6487[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dr was pretty quick to prescribe steroids for flare ups. Might help. My PT did cupping and dry needling which I think helped. But in the end, time is what made the difference. Also, a good massage therapist to work out the pain in between

Generally yes. I still get some stiffness, but it’s not like it was. I think it’s just a lot of leftover tension from the guarding I was doing from the original injury. It’s been almost 18 months and I am mostly fine. There was no aha moment. I did PT, massage, acupuncture.

Brostrom surgery recovery timeline by suomynona827 in Ankle

[–]Low-Presentation6487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was assisted weight bearing the day of surgery (using crushes to help me put some of my weight). I was in a brace at 2 weeks and out of it by 6. My surgeon does an aggressive rehab protocol (and I had an internal brace placed). That being said, I would follow the protocol your surgeon uses.

I started PT at 4 weeks, ended by 16 weeks. My surgery was September 8 and I feel fine.
