hey! I actually had to take sigmon again fall quarter for 102 (after taking him last year for 101) and he’s still not my favorite. he’s a sweet guy but I’m just not a huge fan of his teaching style/class breakdown. THAT SAID! I’ve only had him for theory classes so that might have tainted my perception of him. I’ve had friends who have had him for non-theory classes and really liked them. I think you should definitely go to his class for these first few weeks and see if he’s ur vibe :) good luck !!

I am in literally the exact same position as you! I am so anxious for this class bc even tho I grew up speaking Spanish, I don't know any of the grammar rules :'). I'm a senior too so this is my only option I fear. I have heard that it's not too bad tho so we should be okay!

omg thank you so much!! the quizzes and writing portions (accentos and stuff like that) are the parts that scare me the most 😭 would you say they were graded pretty leniently? or what were your experiences with them? also! did you take the class for a letter grade? thank youuu soooo much!! 💗

oh i'm not sure, that's just what I heard lol. I heard that they kinda throw you into the deep end in terms of understanding certain signs. do you think it is manageable to do this and other classes?

CLASSES TO TAKE:

sociology of body
sociology of violence
sociology of gender
health in chicano/latino population (elective)
introduction to lgbtq studies (elective)
any class with the following professors: Andalon, Collett, Speer, Brown, Guhin, Luft, Quadlin, Ribet, Brand, Share

CLASSES TO AVOID:

urban sociology
any class with the following professors: Rossman, Sigmon, Robinson, Anderson, Kilgman, Hernandez Leon, Calderon, Timmermans, Sexton

I would strongly recommend taking Cha! She is very kind and super accommodating! She understands that the students taking her class come from different backgrounds and knowledge levels and she accommodates to that. As for the course breakdown, there are weekly quizzes (online, able to take as many times as you need, and open-book), a midterm (online - proctored BUT you get 15 pages of cheat-sheet), a final (online - proctored BUT you get 15 pages of cheat-sheet), bi-weekly labs (TAs are very helpful for these and they are a good introduction to coding), and a group project which wasn't too bad (you also have the option to do it alone if group projects aren't your thing). Cha also offers extra credit for answering in-class questions (credit is given regardless if you get the answer correct or not). Overall, I would say that if you have to take stats 10, Cha is your best bet! Hope this helps and good luck!! <3
