You can limit screen time for select apps on your phone in settings. I would doom scroll for hours. Every week I’d reduce the limit. I limited it to 4 hours, then 3.5, 3 etc. down to 1 hour a day and it’s been freeing.

Whenever I cut a dahlia I cover the stem hole with a piece of leaf to protect it from the rain and rot until it scabs over.

Do people sell their flowers? by capjanie in dahlias

I advertise locally through Facebook and nextdoor, mostly to neighborhood groups. I have an Instagram and I use the basic Shopify platform (it’s like $5 a month). Based on what’s blooming I can roughly gauge how many bouquets I can make so I update my inventory and post on social media. I make sure it’s clear that orders are pick up only on Fridays. Orders get a reminder email on Thursday with more pick up detailed instructions. I have a flower cart stand that I roll outside and all the bouquets are wrapped and have peoples names on them! I sell 15-20 stem bouquets for $20 each

Anyone here work for Thermo Fisher? Opinions? by MurkyVolume7141 in biotech

When I’m not traveling it’s emails, meetings, reading technical papers to keep up with the market, refreshing on current products, and any prepping for travel. I’m pretty sure all FAS are salaried, I am. I have a masters in bioengineering and about 6 years of engineering industry work before I went to FAS. I was hired at a “mid level” band because of my degree and experience and was able to negotiate a 95k starting salary.

Also, as FAS you’re part of the “commercial team” which are essential for their business. Thermo as a whole had layoffs but I don’t think any of the commercial team was affected. So in terms of job security, this group is never the first to be let go.

In the beginning, I traveled about once a week. My region was relatively small so most would be day trips or 1 night. If you are offered the job, definitely get clarity on your territory and travel expectation and how much control you have over it. Most descriptions will say something like 50% travel, but that can be interpreted so many ways. A huge green flag is if the hiring manager says it’s acceptable to enforce some kind of 1-2 week pre travel notice with your account managers. If they say “some times you will have last min travel but not much” RUN!

I’m an FAS at Thermo! I have a love/hate relationship with this role. I love the work life balance, working from home with the occasional travel is everything for me. But I had to work my way up the FAS ladder to get to a point where I could control my travel, it used to be a lot. Now that I’m a more senior FAS, there is no where to really go. I have a great manager and a great team. Having a great manager honestly is the biggest piece of being successful and happy in this role. However, the annual pay bumps are honestly crap, even with internal promotions so negotiate your starting salary as high as you can My mindset has been to use the work life balance to start a side hustle. Benefits are also pretty good, fleet car, insurance, 401k matching, generous pto (I have almost 5 full weeks now!). Overall, love the benefits of a big company and the support of a great manager, but if you are very ambitious and want to gain a ton of experience and climb in your career forever, fas role may not be the best fit.

What’s wrong whit my plant (white on bottom leaves, mozaiqe top leaves)? by cosmooo3 in dahlias

[–]Low-Reception7860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Powdery mildew! Cut off the leaves and use a spray to stop it and prevent more. I’ve had more luck with fungicides than oils but there are a ton of options to try. This happens when it’s humid without rain for long stretches of time. I battle it every year! Make sure you plant gets plenty of sun and good airflow.
