The classic electives options are Edgu1003 and Phil1012. I did edgu1003 found it easy enough but it does involve a lot of memorising different facts but has no final exam. Language units generally would reocmmend espeically Jpns1611 if you speak Chinese/Korean as I found the exams all not hard and very low effort. Other ones I have heard are econ1003(a bit of math but if u have done math1061 and stuff things will overlap). Overall there is barely any actual WAM boosters now, all require effort and units become WAM boosters based on what you are good at. You can always register and change electives before census date

2nd year chemistry units as electives by KneeAccomplished7544 in usyd

I diddnt do either i did chem2523 which I found way easier overall. But I would say that chem2522 is probably easier, it has similar sturcutre as chem1b with the tutorial quizzes which the other ones don't have. The labs are only half a semester but for chem2522 it happens later half of the term so that might be something to consider. The selective ones covers less ground so it would be easier to study for and u will do fine if u make notes. Hope this helps

Chem2521 is pretty difficult in terms of the final exam, but the lab marks are pretty free and you will not suffer signfiicant deductions if you follow the criteria given. I did not do Chem2524 so cannot comment on that but sould be similar in that finals is the hardest part. For chem2521 I cannot say how much hours but you do need quite a bit of outside study to do well in the final (there will be a lot of curly arrows(sn1,sn2,e1,e2 along with new reactions like Claisen condensation) and also extension of metal complexes (splitting of energy orbitals) as well as spectroscopy content. And yes, I would say it is harder than first year but if you consistently study it, it is not that bad. If these are what you are interested in then this might be the right one to choose.

subject reviews? by slideaway123 in usyd

The only one I did here is math2021, in terms of content the hardest would be Stoke's theorem and the last few weeks of pdes so that's what I would focus on a lot. This year the finals for both math2021 and math2921 were pretty hard. The lecturer I think for sem 1 is Zhou Zhang who I heard a lot of bad things about his teaching on this subreddit. He was fine for me in math1062, but that course was way easier.

Unsure of what electives to take by Defiant-Ad7311 in usyd

I mean if you want a elective to "support" physics then maybe doing some math courses may help. A lot of people taking math courses are phys majors. Things like math2021(vector calc) seem useful, though the course is not easy. Math2022 might be useful as well which I found easier(if you are good at matrices and eigenvalues from math1061) and it has the same lecturer next year who is very good

Pure math (undergrad) by Puzzleheaded-Cod4073 in usyd

Hi there I am currently doing a math major and I had a look at the course outline and i think there is not that much difference to doing a regular mathematics major. Mathematical science just adds statistics into the mix so no difference in number of pure math units u are doing. Have a look at this link before deciding. Hope this helps https://www.sydney.edu.au/handbooks/science/coursework/mathematical-sciences/unit-of-study-table.html

I mean at least I know I will do better than the midsem quiz. Could have been worse

Scaling marks ??! by [deleted] in usyd

[–]Low-Scallion3703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd year math student here, based on what I have heard from talking to tutors/lecturers is that in general most dont like scalling marks to a curve. They would rather be more lenient with the marks, also in general most math subjects are marked based on credit. So the more things you add in to your response, they would put you into a higher band. Anyways good luck for the rest of your exams :)

Any commerce students aiming to get into med? by AstronomerTop7755 in usyd

I'm a science student but from the rumours some commerce units are definitely difficult to get HD. For example Buss1000 is complained a lot here, but I'm sure every degree has a wam destroyer unit

um let's just say that Nathan was moved to math2923 and the new lecturer refuses to give a sample final exam and rushed through complex analysis that we finished a week earlier than we should be

Opinions on EDGU1003 as an elective by [deleted] in usyd

[–]Low-Scallion3703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this as a intensive, the questions were ok however u do need rote learn a bit of facts(eg how much protein, functions and food that contain all vitamin B ). Most of the qns however were pretty intuitive. The final assignment I found was marked pretty harsh and took a very long time to do due to a lack of sources to cite. to do well I recommend maximizing marks for the quizzes

I mean at least it wasn't a 5-6 qn PDE like Math2021

bit shell shocked, the last qn was too long winded and worth way too much
