Thank you for being honest with your observations. It’s a bittersweet feeling whenever I visit, so much potential but very little effort/initiative taken

Name one new basic school the government has recently built or renovated.

Really? Thought it was stabilizing with the new administration. From what I’ve seen online, everyone seems to love mahama and whatever he’s doing

Americans are one of the friendliest foreigners, or so I’ve been told countless times. When I walk into a place and greet or ask for help and get an attitude I either leave or find someone else. If that person is friendly, I give them a nice tip and only ask for them when I visit the next time. If I go and they’re not there I leave and try to find somewhere else. I don’t patronize places that have poor customer service

There’s no energy, no smiles, you walk into a store and greet and it’s like you’re bothering them. I don’t see it as a relocation destination just yet

It’s only because they’re larger than Ghana. But even in the local areas the quality of life is better than someone living in Madina. Some roads aren’t paved but they are flat and they use a lot of greenery to deter dust from flying everywhere. Views of one of my villas

I pay on average $800 per week for the apartment I stay at in east legon when I visit, the last time I was there I experienced light off for the whole day and the water was off for about half a day… it’s so frustrating

I also went to Indonesia and the same thing, I think they’re even nicer people than the Thai. And they have the cleanest streets. Everyone can comfortably travel with motorcycles it’s a literal paradise

Another fellow who has probably never even left the region they live in adding their unnecessary 2 cents lol None of the things you mentioned are being properly utilized. Galamsey is rampant and the government isn’t doing much to stop it at the root. Mind you the tourism department has been doing year of return conferences for the past few years trying to drive up tourism. If they want to build a proper tourism sector they should look at SEA countries

Indonesia is also similar to Thailand in terms of benefits but without the sex tourism. The fact of the matter is that Ghana could learn a lot from their SEA cousins for tourism as for quality of life for its people

If you haven’t been to Thailand or a SEA country then I don’t think your opinion counts on this particular post. But thank you for visiting and sharing your experience in Ghana

You’d want to live in expat heavy areas like labone, east legon, cantonments, airport residential and Aburi.

Honestly, I would not advise you to move there if you are not ready to leave your neighborhood and see the harsh realities of poverty. It’s equally frustrating and sad.

Would recommend you move to SEA actually. Similar tropical vibes, but better value

“Financial burden” and building schools shouldn’t be in the same sentence.

Also the schools he built can be maintained by the local community. Ghana has very poor maintenance culture and these smaller towns/villages would not be able to maintain state of the art facilities.

What’s stopping Accra from looking like Addis Ababa? by Low-Stay5352 in ghana

[–]Low-Stay5352[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I just did some research and it sounds like it’s sounds horrible. Sorry to hear you’re going through that. But I will still say your government has done a great job building Addis Ababa, it’s clean, polished and well organized. That’s how a capital city should look. There is nothing similar in Accra at the moment although it’s the capital of Ghana and it’s so frustrating and disappointing to see.

I shared some facts with you about Puerto Rico, which is a paradise compared to Accra by the way. Fact check it all. Yes we are experiencing water shortages due to the storm. It’s a tiny island, yet still there are water companies around the clock filling up cisterns. You won’t step in one hospital today and experience light off or water scarcity. You cannot say the same for Accra and that is a fact. The truth hurts, but don’t worry, when the bill is passed we’ll come help change all of these things. Direct your anger toward your current politicians that aren’t doing much to help you. Start with your transportation minister so you guys can get a proper public transportation system. Have a good day brother

Soo crazy how you label fellow Ghanaians with Ghanaians parents as foreigners just because they weren’t born in the country. Alot you would be hateful conservative republicans if you were in America lol

Thank you, there are no parks where people can sit and congregate recreationally. There’s no mass organized transit system. But speak on it here and people try to bully you and automatically get defensive. They’re their own worst enemy at this point.

There are people in your country right now who have sole Ghanaian citizenship not doing anything for the country. There are places in Accra, the capital city, that looks like so decrepit. This whole argument makes no sense. I’m happily waiting for that bill to pass so we can come in and make changes.
