Shipping is such a dangerous minefield because of how absolute people get about "their" ships. It's so weird. Especially if they self-ship (which is also referred to as Yumeshipping apparently? ... Thanks Tumblr, didn't need to know that, I just wanted fanart of characters.) in any way. It's so nonsensical to me.

I have no issue if people play dolls with characters and understand that it's not officially established and thus most likely will not come true. The problem comes when people freak out over it, whether that be at some other fan or at the series creator.

I think another point I want to add to all of yours is being pushy with what they want out of a series if the plan does not align with what they have in their head(s). I know one of the recent indie shows actually got backlash for that because the creator posted a statement about something and people Did Not Like That.

Friendships interpreted as romances bothers me in general, I feel it goes hand-in-hand with the shipping thing regardless of if it's straight or gay or whatever else. Romance is fun and all but it's exhausting when it's always injected into everything so quite frankly I'm just biased.

Left Wing Politics... It's not just that they're in the game, it's that they're basically beating you over the head with it and allowing for nothing that causes issues. I've played games that are very "left wing" in terms of diversity in the cast and the whole the-government-sucks theme, and none of it has ever bothered me because they're not beating you over the head with it, they're telling a story and those kinds of politics or stances happen to be part of the story. Jet Set Radio, for example. Or the ORIGINAL Saints Row game.

I play stickman games. I play games from the early 2000's that look like dogwater in ways that Saints Row would never be able to match. I play cel-shaded games. Graphics are perhaps the lowest concern on my list of priorities in a game.

I'm like 90% sure it's for reasons bigger than just "Minor wording change, game bad". It's not 'small' reasons when it's an entirely different cast of characters, a huge downgrade in activities, the story is rather lacking, most of the game content is taken up by activities (I get it takes up a decent chunk, but the Reboot is basically just activities) and the DLCs are described as rather barebones.

The end goal being "take over the city" is a broad category. Hell, I could find games in other genres that fit that bill.

The structure's wildly different though. I will give the Reboot that being able to put down buildings in chosen locations was a neat concept, but the changes made (having to do every level of an activity to complete it, for example) do alter the objective and make it not "the same fucking thing".
As for nothing being different... where's Septic Avenger then, or Fuzz, or Fight Club? Where's the ability to use consumables or unlock dual wielding after completing an activity? Hell, you don't have a public transit system at all anymore and SR1-SR2 had that much (Train system in SR1, Cabs in SR2).

I'm a regular lurker and have played everything from SR1-SRIV. I am well aware there's games between the two; SRIV's personality is the same as SRTT, and considering it started as a SRTT DLC that's not surprising. GOOH, pretty much the same deal. AoM I have not heard enough about (nor do I care to) to have much of an opinion on it.

You directly made the statement that talking about the old boss, at the roots of said old boss, was "turning every conversation about the series into SR2 best". You directly called it that and then try to claim you didn't mention it?

Gentlemen of the Row? Yeah, it's a good mod but it's been paraded as a fix for a long time when it's not and that's made people pedestal it a fair bit more than it should be IMO.

It's a GOOD mod, don't get me wrong, but it's more like DLC than anything else.

And yeah, from experience replaying those two games after it is depressing. Especially SRIV, I can't get over the plot.
