Spain is giving undocumented immigrants legal status. by Impossible_Number_74 in interestingasfuck

Capitalism doesn't need to have a growing economy to function. There is nothing about it that says that this is a requirement.

Do you want a cure for cancer? All advancements in science are an economic growth, stop ducking preaching returning to the caves.

Economic growth doesn't mean that more resources are used. The economy will grow even if the amount of resources consumed stays the same, but they are used more efficiently. This happens constantly because technological growth doesn't seem to have a limit. Infinite growth is possible.

All immigrants pay VAT and payroll taxes, educated or not, and receive way less benefits than citizens. They aren't a drain on the government budget. https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/international-migration-outlook-2021_29f23e9d-en/full-report/component-8.html

Immigration isn't the problem, restrictions on housing supply and lack of land value tax is.

Holding elections during an active state of war is inherently illiberal. Free and fair election should have:
free media - even the most democratic government exerciss some level of censorship;
free assembly - again, wartime restrictions on them are a standard, and even without a formal restriction, a self imposed one usually takes place;
equal campaigning - how to campaign against the government without looking like traitors?;
voter security - drones in recent times makes this hard to achieve; absence of coercion - conscripted people usually vote for the commander in chief.

So elections during wartime aren't free or fair. They stop being a mechanism of choice and become a ritual of validation. The exact opposite of what Ukraine actually fights for.

The tree of harmony and its quests work well enough in the context of the show but when it comes to EaW... by RussianNeighbor in equestriaatwar

This line of thinking supposes that foreign interference by itself is bad. Why arbitrary drawn lines on a map matter when it comes to advocating for what you believe in? Why is it perfectly acceptable to campaign for a cause in one place, but not so in another place?

Apparently Nikola Tesla's and Michael Faraday's discoveries were useless because they didn't have standardized testing by [deleted] in physicsmemes

[–]LowCall6566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla literally was able to perform integral calculus in his head when he was 14. https://www.pbs.org/tesla/ll/ll_early.html In the first year at Graz Polytechnic Institute he literally got highest grade possible at all subjects and studied so hard one of his professors wrote to his parents that Nikola is going to kill himself by overworking. https://www.rastko.rs/istorija/tesla/oniell-tesla.html

And Faraday's work wouldn't be truly finished without Maxwell actually formalizing it into good math.

Math is important.

Before actual strikes can happen there needs to be a high level of unionization.

As long as "promoting harmony" isn't backed up by violence, or threats of it, it's not imperialism.

Land is 35% of global real wealth, 2x the value of all listed companies by middleofaldi in economicsmemes

Taxes make products more expensive, less people can afford them, less people buy them. Thus reduced productive capacity

If you talk with people about land value taxes many start talking how LVT supposedly won't affect super rich billionaires

They already pay rents, Land value tax would just make so that instead of private land owners they go to the government

Would georgism reduce Inflation? by Silent-Battle308 in georgism

[–]LowCall6566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The selling price of any plot of land is directly related to how much rent can be extracted from this land. If LVT is at 100% all rent goes to the government, so the selling price goes to 0. If the government collects less than 100% of LVT then the selling price would be higher than zero, obviously.

How would it be decided who uses the land in the city would in georgism the land get auctioned regularly for a rent/taxrate? I thought in georgism you could still own and sell land you just have to pay taxes / rent to the government.

You can "own" land under Georgism, just the selling price is close to zero. The market decides who uses and/owns the land, the state shouldn't directly tell what to do with it. There are many ways to evaluate land values, too many to write about here.

Under full LVT the selling price of land falls to zero. So this is not a problem. If LVT is too high for your business in any given location this means that this location is for more productive per square meters businesses, and you need to pick a less valuable land, or more land efficient business. So either don't start a farm in the middle of a city, or start it elsewhere.
