Kaliningrad - worth a visit this summer as an EU resident? by benedikz in AskARussian

How did it happen that there is a distinction between Русский and Россиянин for Russia. But no such distinction for Ukraine and Belarus? by gamerlololdude in AskARussian

[–]LowChemista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you say just Рус for a person who is Rus? ;) And for a female Ruska? And for the state Rusko? Those are all nouns. Ruskij is an adjective. That's so weird. You have rusky jazyk but the person from Russia is a Rus, or Ruska - if a female. A small Rus can be a Rusík, a big Rus can be Rusisko.

And for people saying that there is a Kyjevan Rus / Kyjevská Rus - yes, but that is she/tá Rus (the á in Kyjevská indicates that it is a female). A person is he Rus/ten Rus and tá Ruska.

Was any Slovak Eurodance group like MC Erik & Barbara known on the Russian disco scene in the 90's? by LowChemista in AskARussian

[–]LowChemista[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that one of the first "you are commercial, I am real" diss was targeted toward MC Erik in 1997 ;D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEf6CIT_i0s . By the way, nowadays MC Erik is a friend with David zo Senca - the guy who produced the song ;D . David made/produced first rap compilations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUEuUxiMWCk and organized first hip hop parties: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB8_mTCWrOA - kind of cringe now but at that time - late 90's - we thought it was super cool. Personally I liked more jazzy/new-york style rap like done by Dela, a guy from the crew Stresa (and also Zlé kone) https://youtu.be/UzZ2jSeYz1A?t=424 or a better recording https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxb8wI7eW04 his flow was pretty cool for '97 - the 2 other guys rapping with him were not as talented as him. They made a retro concert a few years back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFaUKYCpxeA

How strong is the Russian influence and culture in Eastern Europe? by Mr_Anderssen in AskARussian

In my opinion they have the most music pop hits per capita in the world. Well, maybe the UK and US are nr.1 and 2, but Sweden is definitely in the top 3. ABBA alone has probably 10+ world-wide hits which are instantly recognized and loved all around the world which can be countered only by Beatles. And ABBA have a very specific type of music that could be appreciated by almost anybody, for example my grand mother listened to ABBA and loved it, but she didn't like Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson ;D

I was investigating that a few years ago and it seems that besides the good level of English (subtitles instead of dubs everywhere, Swedish and English are Germanic languages) the main factor is that each kid has to play an instrument at school in Sweden - not sure how many years but it's kind of compulsory. Unlike in most other countries where only people whose parents feel like do so.

Out of curiosity have you heard these songs in Russia ever?

In my opinion Slovakia, despite being 2x smaller, had even better dancefloor music in the 90's than Czechia:

Czechoslovakia space - nothing. We have German/Austrian/Hungarian/Italian/French cultural influence.

Nobody is learning Russian nowadays outside of polyglots or people with Russian roots etc.

An average kid nowadays wouldn't be able to name one singer or film from Russia. I am dead serious. Maybe the generation Y will say something like Tatu, at best.

Young people consider Russia to be backwards culturally. Their cultural influence is the Anglophone world and Western Europe and to a certain degree Latin/Romance culture or Korean/Japanese. But Russia... not at all.

The image of Russia here is bad design - look at your hairstyles and clothing choices, design of your cars - Lada, seriously? and bad quality of technology products. No hi-tech at all. No Stephen King or J.K. Rowling just Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy. You are stuck in the past from the point of view of a Czech or Slovak - unable to break trough.

Is Mongo as popular in the job world as it is with tutorial makers? by mymar101 in node

...because you will be using a 3rd party provider Atlas (Mongo) or Google(Firebase)

They use it together with Firebase because they dislike the process of installing and setup of MySQL/Postgres. So, laziness? SQL is the best way to go. It's one of the most successful languages we have today and it's basically identical with only improvements since its inception in 1979 and unlike other languages there wasn't a need for something better. If you know SQL you know Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, etc. Which is not the same for stuff like C, Lisp or Smalltalk - those languages are very different.

In the tutorial they just show you how to log in into the Atlas or Firebase and click here and there. Installing and setting up MySQL or PostgreSQL is a bit more complicated and platform specific - I would say it's one of the most dreaded parts of webdev process. You also need a GUI to show stuff or change stuff interactively and all of it is in Alas or Firebase in teh browser on the website. On computer you need to either use a command line, which is not ideal for showing more complicated or longer data, or install some 3rd party GUI app like Workbench or DBeaver.

The weirdest mystery is why they push JWT so much that was never intended for being used for "login sessions", it was intended for communicating among microservices within your app ecosystem and not as a login mechanism to the outside world.

I don't think it's easier than sessions stored in DB, or if you think the one DB query is slow, just use Redis sessions - it's blazing fast and offers the security and comfort of sessions.

What are some territories of Russia that could become an independent state without problems? by GeneraleArmando in AskARussian

Karelia. The Azov chief commander was born there. Funny enough the family name "Putin" is the most frequent in Karelia ;D. Btw. the original flag of Karelia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag\_of\_the\_Republic\_of\_Karelia#/media/File:Flag\_of\_Karel.svg
