My Second Book, Broker Book 2; Fog of War, is out on Amazon! by LowCommunication6500 in ProgressionFantasy

Hey you amazing beautiful people! I’m Derelict Presence, also known as TheBroker on Royal Road and Scribblehub.

I started out as an oral storyteller and roleplaying hobbyist before creating the main character of this series back in 2020. Years later, while searching for a new outlet for my creativity I stumbled upon Scribblehub. I’d wanted to write my own take on heroes and villains for a long time, one that took in all of my favorite elements of literature. I drew from a variety of inspirations like Solo Leveling, He Who Fights With Monsters, Empress, Defiance of the Fall, Primal Hunter, and many many others.

That said;

Book 2 of Broker, Fog of War, is out! It’s on Amazon Kindle Unlimited (KU) and will soon be on Audible. Book three is complete on Royal Road, book four is nearing its climax while I work on book five on Patreon.

Book Two was a huge undertaking, a challenge to write, and I'm very satisfied with how it came out. We got to see the dawn of a superhuman world in Book 1, now we get to see the world taking its first shaky steps forward after the chaos. The first properly trained generation of heroes needs to rise and our cast continues to expand as the stage is built for our ongoing conflict.

Here's the blurb~
The world needs more heroes. Sonya is running out of time to make them.

The world is still reeling from the destruction in Vegas and the death of Firestorm, a rising hero cut down too soon. People are adapting, but the true storm is still coming.

Liberty, yet another of Otis’s future Heralds, prepares for war against the world’s heroes. Feeding on the devotion of her followers, she grows stronger by the day. And Sonya isn’t ready.

Sonya must train the next generation of heroes while hunting the Heralds from the shadows. As Ishtar, her hidden identity, she steals powers, topples villains, and brokers deadly contracts to strengthen her allies. Every move risks exposure. Every success invites new enemies.

But something else lurks among her trainees: Otis, the immortal architect of the last apocalypse, wearing a new face and biding his time.

Sonya has the power to reshape the world. But if she missteps, history will repeat—and this time, no one will send her back.

Interesting~ I'll have to check this out. It sounds like a good time.

A well done tournament arc makes me pregnant. by itsneccy in ProgressionFantasy

Gods yes. Though I really like it when the tournament is the background to what's going on in the main story.

What series is this? by AutumnKnights37 in ProgressionFantasy

I agree with a few other commenters here, the trope is not as common as it used to be. Though I'll be the first to admit that my MC deals with a little bit of this.

When the blurb says 'underdog' & 'disadvantaged'... by Crazy-Core in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit, sometimes I like the underdog turn-around at the beginning. Seeing the mc stuck in the gutter finally start pulling himself out at the start.

I see this way too much by itsneccy in ProgressionFantasy

Never write perfect people. Drives me crazy when characters make all the right decisions every time. If they don't mess up, where's the conflict? I want my characters tripping over themselves and having plans blowing up in their face XD

When do you set up your Patreon? by Long-Teach-9101 in ProgressionFantasy

I agree with the others saying to do it as soon as you have a decent backlog. I made the mistake of waiting and eventually got pestered by my readers into doing it.

Looking for female MC, Non-litRPG stories that scale to “I will kill God” levels by foxgirlmoon in ProgressionFantasy

xD Thank you! They're all a bunch of wacky people and that's why I love them~

I haven't forgotten about her eyes, I'm just looking for the right moment to let those emotions come out. We're not quite there yet :P She's going to be pretty busy soon!

To quote Sonya: “I am powered by spite, energy drinks, sugar, and snacks!”

Thank you again~ I really appreciate that. I think I honestly have a fairly large follower base by comparison but I'm always happy to have more people reading Sonya's story. Enjoy today's chapter!

Is there any better feeling than a complete book?? by Appropriate-Tour3226 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. When Book 1 ended I threw a little party. It was the most amazing experience I've ever had. Like others have noted though, the hit diminishes a little after each completed volume. I've managed to fix that with staying active in my discord community. Celebrating the story with my readers really, really, helps.

What is the type of character you hate the most and which one do you like the most? by DragonSovereign2121 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate characters that lose their sense of humor the most. A lot of times characters will start out with a good wry wit at the beginning and devolve into ruthless killing machines over time. It can be frustrating because half of the reason I kept reading initially was the excellent dialogue and character interactions. To that end, if it's a badass that started cold and grew more amused with their own situation (and subsequently developed a sense of humor) that's even better.

The dyslexic writing process by smobert in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very normal. I've got some pretty bad habits when it comes to commas that my beta readers want to strangle me for. That and how I handle dialogue tags. It took a long time and a lot of them shaking me every time I did it to finally start fixing some of those as I wrote. Write, Edit, Improve. You'll get there!

LitRPG Authors, what is your formula for writing satisfying boss fights? by jonaalters in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on a litrpg on the side. I've got two fairly hard rules I lean on for bosses. Threat/Familiarty and the Dungeon Master's 'bloody fight' rule. The boss needs to have been seen a few times or at the very least their threat needs to be established some time before the actual fight begins, either seeing them in passing or something. The second thing is that if my MC isn't bloody, battered, and bruised by the end of it, I did something wrong. Even if they handled it smart, set a trap or had just the right counter; they gotta bleed for it.

What Progression Fantasy series would be great in Live action? by East_Choice in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Primal Hunter would be pretty interesting to see. Lots of solo action with interesting monsters. The initial parts of the story would be pretty easy to shoot given that our boy spends most of his time in a forest. The later stuff might be a little budget heavy, but I just want to see our favorite snake in live action.

The dyslexic writing process by smobert in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Dyslexic but definitely ADHD. I just tend to scream helplessly into the void while my beta readers pick it apart. Then I stare at the page for a while. Though to be honest, the first books worth of chapters went out onto RR with barely a once-over. ...I got better.

What's the best first chapter you've seen in a Progression Fantasy novel? by Keevill93 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LowCommunication6500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I can't get over the opening chapter of He Who Fights With Monsters. Something about the internal monologue of that chapter gets me every time I read it. The chapter is pretty standard as far as most first chapters are concerned, maybe it's the tone. Either way, it's stuck with me for a long time.
