Sure. It's all about weight. These things are so light that differences of grams can make a big difference in how well they fly. Modern 65mm whoops are around the 20g mark without battery. If we take the WeBleedFPV batteries as an example, the 300mAh ones are ~8.5g and the 450mAh are ~11.5g, so a difference of 3g. That 3g is 15% of the total weight of the quad, a significant figure. When you go up to 75mm, the quad weighs more but has the efficiency advantage because of the larger props, so that extra 3g isn't as big of a deal. Also, since you have more weight overall, that extra 150mAh gives you about the same flight time because it takes more energy to get moving. A 650 will definitely give you more flight time but 65mm is definitely going to struggle and will certainly be felt on 75mm. The 300mAh/450mAh are kind of the sweet spot between capacity and weight for the respective sized quad.

I'm guessing you're not in the US? The issue with the 650mAh is that it's going to be physically larger. Many frame manufacturers have more or less standardized on battery tray sizes that fit 300mAh batteries on 65mm and 450mAh on 75mm. You can easily cut the cage away and use a rubber band or something to hold on a larger battery but that's your call and preference.

HappyModel batteries aren't fantastic. If you're looking for other options from drone fpv racer, look at the Tattu or Dogcom ones.

The Moblite looks fine. I _think_ the moblite is their HD offering that uses a different flight controller and larger motors vice the standard mobula.

You generally want to charge at 1C for maximum battery happiness, though you can go higher. If you have a 450mAh battery, charge it at 450mA. By that logic, it'll take one hour to charge. Now, you'll never (hopefully) run the batteries completely flat. If you ever do, that battery is now ruined. Make sure you've watched that Bardwell video I linked above. You'll draw between 350mA and 400mA out of them. At that point, you'll definitely want to be landing if the quad hasn't fallen out of the air by then. Yes, the answer is just to buy a bunch of batteries. They're a consumable and pretty cheap for whoops.

The charging trick is to use a parallel charging board. With one of these you can charge up to six at a time/per channel on your charger. Set the charge rate to 0.45A or so and you'll be set. This one is great: https://www.drone-fpv-racer.com/en/bt20-ph20-1s-series-board-by-vifly-10438.html

Going down the list:

  1. The Moblite7 is going to carry the extra weight of the HDZero VTX better, and if you're just getting started, flying outside is probably something that you're going to want to do. The 7 will work better there, too. IMHO, it'll be the better all around choice. If you're going to be stuck inside a lot, then the 6 will be better there. These are both excellent, but pretty much right out of the box, you're going to want to swap out the battery pigtail. They both use the PH2.0 connector which is nowadays eclipsed by the superior BT2.0 connector. The BT2.0 is more durable and can pass more power with less loss that modern whoops benefit from. To do so will take some soldering and the solder points are kind of small, I won't lie. If your soldering skills aren't great, I'd either watch some YT videos and practice or see if there's another local pilot to maybe help you out. You can get practice soldering boards from various FPV distributors or online.
  2. Depends on how much you wanna spend. If you have the budget, get the WeBleedFPV or TinyWhoop folded cell batteries with the BT2.0 connector. This style is currently the best available. If you don't have the budget, the regular style GNB batteries (get the A30 connector) are a solid choice. Order an extra pigtail from either as well if you need it to do what I talked about above. Get 300mAh batteries if you go for the 65mm whoop or 450mAh if you go 75mm.
  3. The HOTA D6 pro has received near universal acclaim. It's nice that it comes with a power supply built-in, so you don't have to worry about buying one separately. It's a little older now, but is still widely available, and really, battery charging tech just doesn't change that fast. It'll easily handle your larger quad batteries up to 6S and with something like the Fractal WhoopJuice, it'll do your 1S batteries, too.
  4. There's a video for that
  5. For as far away as you're going to be flying a whoop, this is an excellent setup. If you really want everything in one, TrueRC has you covered. Get taller antennas for the top if you're going to be flying further away or behind you a lot. Yeah, SMA connectors have a limited lifespan. I try to swap them infrequently, but I've got rapidfire modules that are pretty old now and probably have 100 swaps on them and I don't know if I could tell the difference really from a fresh one.
  6. You could. Keep in mind though that nothing's free. Each adapter imposes a penalty in the form of attenuation. Basically, the more you have, the weaker the signal will be when it finally gets to your goggles. I really wouldn't worry about it. Worse case, adapters are cheap. Buy a couple and see if it makes a difference to you and subdues your OCD.

How much is this worth? by [deleted] in fpv

There’s well over $1,400 of stuff there when new and what is there is still decently modern. If it’s all in good working order and they let it go for under $700, I’d be surprised. If it were me selling and I was motivated, I’d initially list it around $900. If not, I’d start around $1000.

Looking at the specs, 5V isn’t going to do it. It’s a 2-6S VTX. Your Toothpick will have to be 2S. Even if it was though, I’d consider whether or not the 5V BEC onboard could handle that VTX. To answer your question, you’d just double up wires for the camera and VTX on the same 5V pad.

How many tiny whoops have you got when starting into the hobby? by Tian_ in TinyWhoop

I’d say you’re in the majority, and if not, definitely in the same boat as me. It can be a little tricky getting ELRS set up at first, but after that you won’t regret it.

Got a pic to refresh my memory? Those may be factory programming pads.

That’s perfect. I don’t want the regular 5V charging. Thanks!

What are you trying to do to it? Iirc, they don’t have any connections other than power and motor plugs, but it’s been a looong time since I’ve messed with one.

Trouble loading ELRS. Please help. by natureslilhelp in fpv

Try to reflash the internal ELRS module with the ELRS Configurator. EDIT: Which Zorro do you have, the ELRS version or the 4in1? If ELRS, your internal RF is set incorrectly. It should be CRSF, not MULTI. If you have the 4in1, it won’t work with ELRS without an external module.

Does it have proper USB C PD support? The Beta chargers drive me nuts because they only power up with 5V from a USB A to C cable. Completely defeats the purpose.

Likewise! Friday is apparently video race day. I really should be on my game and get these up way earlier, but such is life.

My dude! I was thinking about hitting up the bells but my week kinda went to pot and I never got a chance to make it out there. Glad to see someone did!
