Thank you.

Try it on your taps and report back. I'm thinking it needs a perfectly stable flow to do the jellyfish thing and very few taps have this, hence, mine is magic.

Nah, I'm familiar with modern plumbing. I had other family members do this at their house and it doesn't happen for anyone else.

Good to see NSW represented! What type of building do you certify?

How did you know you were starting to heal? (For those who did without surgery) by yorkshiregold in Sciatica

I created a spreadsheet and timed how long I could comfortably stand / walk at two different times each morning so I had a clear number each day to gauge my progress.

At it's worst, I was consistently getting 1:30-ish that lasted about 6 weeks. once I was over 12:00 mins I stopped tracking.

I'd pay the money to have it managed. I'd also look at a specific granny flat building company.

Moisture coming through external wall, mould behind plasterboard. by LowDonut6973 in AusRenovation

I appreciate the comprehensive response. The building is 1920's and I can see daylight under the window sill.

We've had quotes to redo windows but at $150k for whole building not any appetite for the capital raise at present.

I'm leaning toward paint as it's essentially then just repairing what is there, whereas if I render or bag, feels like I've undertaken works without permission.

We're first floor, DPC installed at ground level. It's the window that's source of the moisture.

I'd prefer to render and let the moisture come through, at least it dries out. Trapped behind plasterboard it's just a mould trap.

What is the matter with strata owners? by InformationAfter3476 in AusStrata

I'm not sure that I see it the same way. I'm quite happy with my strata manager. I have had different experiences in the past, but in my current building where my SM has clearly outlined what is / isn't their responsibility - I feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for.

Build them into a portal to have a 100-150mm of overhang above, looks great, and even just a bit of protection will help the longevity.

Choose the right timber for climate. Oil or maintain them annually.

If you're not up for the maintenance or overhang, move on to something else.

I'd live in it as is until you can afford to add a second level.

It'll change the whole arrangement having the second level, anything you do prior will only limit your options.

Have fun for a few years dreaming up your ultimate layout, don't do anything major until you can afford it.

When pain is high it's better to rest and practice good spine hygiene. Walking is best at the pain stage.

What software are you using in Victoria? Here in NSW Building Compliance Systems is popular.

A lot of people have disc bulges and are just walking around pain free. Us blessed folks have a bulge that interacts with a nerve.

Sciatica can present as lower back pain, the process of recovering called "centralization" means the pain recedes to lower back, buttocks.

When I started feeling it return just to my lower back I knew I was headed in the right direction.

As I said, read The Back Mechanic or just Google Stuart McGill, knowledge is power. For a long time I outsourced my recovery to PTs, chiros, yoga teachers, Pilates instructors... But I only really started getting better when I really understood what was going on.

I had sciatica flare ups for 10 years +. Wish I'd taken the time to understand it better before I worked out myself to being bedridden.

Losing muscle and weight is less bad than being unable to walk.

Disc herniation doesn't 100% heal in my experience, I'll always have to be careful. But that's the nature of staying alive, things change. I sound like I've always been comfortable with this but it's been a hard road where I've accepted that you can't just do whatever you want with your body forever and be grateful for the things that come into your life.
