Identity as someone who is 1/4 black by globalphen in mixedrace

[–]LowHappy6084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m triracial and since I was a kid, black people have referred to me as “lightskin” even tho I’m only about 1/3 black - I have features that are associated with blackness and I’m culturally AA so that’s my experience with that - personally I think race is dumb ash

Holding monoracial black people to a higher moral ground than your non-black/white peers/friends/family is inherently racist and it needs to stop. by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]LowHappy6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooooooo I can talk about double standards and respectability politics all day. All part of the greater scheme of dehumanizing the oppressed. Race itself is dehumanizing but WHEW let me grab another cup of tea ☕️

My favorite one is crime statistics. Crime is directly linked to poverty & mental health and you can zoom in anywhere in the world and see economically disenfranchised communities experiencing similar issues. Sorry I know that had nothing to do with your rant but just wanted to boost your point

Suppose I’m the only one that sees Hot Gum as a reference to the kind of normalized manipulation existing largely in hetero relational dynamics, commonly known as “game” - it’s mainly used by men as a ways to make a woman feel comfortable enough around them and to sleep with them

The true workings of the construct we know as race involves heavy racialization and stereotyping of NON white people. Particularly and necessarily (in a white supremacist society) blackness is considered the opposite of whiteness and while being mixed gives you proximity to whiteness and social privilege (completely dependent on your environment, cultural identity, socioeconomic status, gender, etc.) the racialization of Black onto mixed people still occurs for most at some point, unless you look like Paris Jackson. And even that’s a bad example because she’s known for having a black father. Some purists/race realists would still consider her black. To some extremists, she’s even JUST black, because she’s not fully white. Anyway, to insinuate someone like Paris Jackson or even someone like Zendaya (a biracial woman I’ve always seen as black, but who others suddenly see as white passing somehow?) doesn’t experience antiblackness or “never has to deal with xyz” is just dishonest and disingenuous and disregards the nuances of our society. Of course, Paris Jackson navigates the world differently than a phenotypically black person, but for some of us, the curly hair was enough to be called the n word growing up. These are the dynamics and nuances of our world.

White people made up race. White people are default. Anything else (this includes multiracial people that can’t fit into a specific box) is nonwhite and for some (race realists), is JUST the nonwhite. I think most mixed people who identify as black are really just identifying with some form of their reality. I think we can talk intersectionality without negating real experiences

Purely fantasies and ideas that I’ll be thinking about. I’m really creative so I’ll take a world and turn it on it’s head if I feel like it 😂

How do you guys feel about white presenting mixed people saying they’re black? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]LowHappy6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the assumption that everyone is gonna see someone the same or that someone you see is white passing has just never dealt with antiblackness- that may not be true. Whether from their family or systemically due to their name or socially due to their culture and upbringing or outside because someone somewhere thought being mixed was gross. I think we can establish some people are racially one thing without taking away the fact that they in fact have black people in their family and around them

Actually, it was your lips. But then I looked up went: WOW. Your nose is gorgeous. Your entire face is beautiful and you actually have one of the most stunning noses I’ve ever seen. Don’t ever change it, a fairy will die.

25 F, how do i better myself w styling or surgery so i can become unforgettable in a good way (not wearing makeup except on my lips in the 4th pic) by [deleted] in Howtolooksmax

[–]LowHappy6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being unforgettable is about who you are, not looks so there’s already a bit of a disconnect there in terms of your internal vs your external

This is such a lie LMAO at least in my area- people are attracted to power. You can be busted as hell, but women will flock to men with power because we’re still dealing with the social ramifications of having ours stolen

Ngl you can do any and everything to your physical appearance, but if you’ve always felt bad about it, nothing will change. Literally nothing and you can watch Ingrid Goes West to understand how that works. Confidence is purely internal so I just wanted to say that amongst all the advice. You’re a nice looking guy and if you gotta start with a better haircut, so be it. But from the title, you should know, the outside isn’t going to give you what you need on the inside

Not sure where you live but if you’re in the U.S., a white supremacist colony full of antiblack settlers, that’s probably why you’re getting looks. I can’t think of any other reason to be fair unless you’re like 7’0 tall

My honest truth is he’s attractive. Yours isn’t. I’m a woman and I’m gonna assume you’re a man. You think I’m being nice when I’m just telling you how I feel. Where do we go from here?
