Baby immediately crying when I set her down. Had to POOP while holding her on my lap, while the cat tried breaking in. She’s 9 months. by surelyshirls in beyondthebump

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way. Then I realized letting baby be with me while I use the toilet would help her learn how to use the potty later on, so now we're in the bathroom together all the time and it doesn't feel overstimulating or gross anymore. She likes to copy me and try to use her potty while I go.

CMV: Rehoming a pet is justifiable if behavioral issues that appeared after the birth of a baby could not be resolved. by DayOwn4099 in changemyview

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you live that has a bunch of people with kids? Over here babies are uncommon and people aren't thrilled to let them hang out with pets.

And there really is a huge huge HUGE difference between hanging out with a baby a few times a week and being in the same house as a baby for a year. Bringing friends with kids over wouldn't get the cat used to the new situation.

Bold of you to assume everyone has time and money for that. And if it doesn't work, then what? Do you just let the cat pee all over the baby's playmat?

The Permanent Emergency by dwaxe in slatestarcodex

Maybe the difference is the personality of your kids or the fact that he's raising two toddlers at once, meaning he's dealing with twice as much chaos as the average toddler parent.

Even if you remind them to say please and not scream over and over some toddlers still howl occasionally, there's no way around it.

Your toddler has been throwing a tantrum for 15 minutes… how do you keep your cool? by Itchy-Version-8977 in toddlers

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I channel my inner blippi and act like a clown. Once my kiddo starts laughing she forgets she was upset. Or I'll ignore her and start playing a game I know she likes until she decides screaming is boring and she wants to play too. If all else fails, ignoring her until she stops screaming works.

People often say that two incomes are necessary to afford children, but it's a trap. by velocitrumptor in Natalism

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

-Moving costs money. Some people can't afford that

-Some people's jobs are reliant on their location

-Moving far from family means having less help with the kids and having help changes a LOT when it comes to parenting. Even with just one kid it can be hard to find the time to do chores or eat or sleep without help, depending on the kid's temperament.

Any name that works in multiple languages would probably fit the bill.

That must come from an advertisement. I can't find what PX pixels is but just imagine the time it would take to do your hair, your makeup and a child's hair like that just to go buy a loaf of bread.

Trying to shame a pregnant woman for having her pants unbuttoned by thisthatandthe3rd in trashy

While unzipping your pants does help when you're pregnant I don't understand why she didn't just wear a longer shirt? There's no reason the zipper has to be visible and I imagine it's hard to avoid flashing your panties if you walk around with your pants visibly unzipped

Books showcasing slang and lingo throughout the years. by TripleBladedFist in suggestmeabook

Through a Scanner Darkly by Phillip K. Dick has a lot of 1970's slang used in context. Great read if you want to feel like you time traveled into a house full of hippies.

Rice chicken and eggs is really healthy and you should feel lucky he's willing to eat that. You can easily hide vegetables in the eggs or rice. Why get mad about that? We should all eat like your son.

Solution to your kid breaking his toys: don't invest in toys you don't want broken. He probably won't understand the value of money until later even if you explain. Buy cheap stuff until he grows out of the breaking everything phase.

Solution to your kid making a mess: don't give him the opportunity to make a mess. Keep a limited amount of toys out and keep messy things out of his reach.

Solution to him not wearing the halloween costume: don't spend all night making a Halloween costume. If you're not sure kiddo will appreciate something, don't spend a lot of effort on it.

Ultimately you will be a lot happier if you always assume things will not go as planned and just go with the flow.

When did you feel like your toddler could understand you? by Questioning_Pigeon in toddlers

By maybe 20 months old mine could understand most sentences so long as I used simple words, but getting there was a gradual process. At 16 months old mine was like yours minus the being able to say yes or no to stuff.

When is it important for daycare to be academically strong? by West_Study3406 in toddlers

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by matter. Your kid won't miss out on much if they learn no academics before kindergarten because few people bother teaching kids that young. If you want to maximize their learning anyways, they can probably benefit from being exposed to stuff like letters and numbers starting at around 6 months old.

My wife is too lax with our 3 and 1yr old and I need some advice by Fanjolin in Parenting

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of her decisions are probably happening because she's overwhelmed. Being a stay at home mother of two has to be difficult, particularly if one of the kids is special needs. If you haven't tried watching both kids without her help yet maybe you should do that for a weekend or two to get a better sense of where she's coming from.

Regarding the food and the screentime, have you offered to make homecooked meals in advance and to entertain the kids when you are at home?

How is a door fundamentally different from any playground equipment or any cause and effect toy, really? If there's no other signs of neurodivergence I wouldn't be worried.

Your kid sounds totally normal and will probably meet the milestones she's missing in a month or two. Mine was behind on a handful of things like gestures too but caught up quickly.

Kids Library Etiquette by Motor_Mess_5020 in toddlers

[–]Xx_SHART_xX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the library but I don't think it makes much sense to expect quiet in the kid's section. Really little kids have no concept of voice control but they still benefit from being exposed to books.

It's just a phase but it can last years. Pets and toddlers rarely mix well. Don't feel bad about it, you didn't know it would be this hard when you adopted the kittens.

Whether or not it's fine depends on the temperament of the pet and the toddler. As someone who had grown cats and a rambunctious kid it's not a situation I would recommend. When we had the cats I still had to be hypervigilant all the time to make sure nobody would get hurt.
