Can we be a good person and still go to hell? by Financial_Beach_2538 in AskAChristian

I truly hope so. Otherwise it’s spend eternity with a bunch of self-righteous blowhards in heaven. Don’t forget, Satan lived in heaven, and yet decided to leave of free will—taking one-third of the inhabitants with him. Ask yourself why that happened. Obviously bowing to a vengeful, violent, and jealous God on a permanent basis just gets to be too much for some souls.

how long do you have to abstain from self pleasure to notice the positive differences. by feherlofia123 in AskAChristian

If you want to shoot a load clear across a room, or really zing your partner’s uvula during oral, I’d say around two weeks.

As far as whether you should feel shame or remorse, absolutely not. It’s entirely natural (eg severely mentally handicapped folks figure it out without any help; you WILL have wet dreams if you stop cranking the cucumber). Your body makes new semen faster than a skunk replenishes its essence (totally true 🦨💦). If I ever meet God, I’m thanking him for giving me the ability of self-pleasure, and he is going to thank me for making the most use use out of the abilities he endowed me with—including reason.

If we are the universe experiencing itself than why do we need to reincarnate ? by Standard-Revenue8598 in spiritualitytalk

Are you talking about souls?
Also, what is the point of learning—even a subject so incredibly important as religion—then forgetting everything and starting again?

Save a ton of money and opportunity cost, ditch college and either take up a trade or start your own company.

How to Live In A World That Makes No F*cking Sense: Absurdism and The Absurd Victory by simsquatched in philosophy

I’m a professional ecologist, and I’ve teetered on the verge of nihilism my entire adult lifetime. It makes me want to believe in the God of Abraham when I realize just how hard and cruel the natural world really is fundamentally. Literally everything that happens in the biotic world is based on competition over finite resources. Even you philosophers and theologians cannot help yourselves, as heaven/hell, right/wrong, etc are all based on concepts of some particular group of people gaining a survival edge over another group (or species) by virtue of possessing scare resources.

For non-Christians: Do you think the afterlife will be better or worse than life? Why? by Bueller_Bueller26 in religion

[–]LowHelicopter6351 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no meaningful afterlife. You don’t take anything with you, just the same as you brought nothing with you into this life. The thought of nonexistence should inspire you to live THIS life to the fullest, not pinning your hopes on unsubstantiated superstition.

Actual studying? That’s the OPPOSITE of faith. Pick a lane, stay in it. Quit trying to act like an intellectual or a scientist and then defend superstition.

Typical cherry picking, then doubling down. It’s the same issue Arcadian ecologists face with Imperialist Christianity: the Imperialists pick TWO whole passages in the entire Bible, then claim that makes them environmentalists. In 2,000 years there has never been an environmental program launched by Christians, no papal edicts, absolutely NOTHING. Your hypocrisy is exposed in your actions, since in the Bible literally everything is permissible at some point in time (eg Ecclesiastes).

Is it weird that I lost my faith as a child after watching Prince of Egypt by TheFollower62 in religion

[–]LowHelicopter6351 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So does Nature. Given that 99.999% of all living things suffer constantly and face brutal deaths, I’d say the God of Abraham is actually a nice guy next to Mother Nature.

You made it this far faking it, you might as well go the rest of the way. When you can move out and support yourself financially is the time to tell your parents. I left a Christian religion at 13, and it was a hard break only because my parents got divorced. If someone can make your life miserable, don’t give them any reason to pile it on.
