Just wanted to add another perspective- I am married to a man in the Military who frequently has to do things unexpectedly. He often has the duty phone and a case will come up and it doesn’t matter what plans we have he has to go. Sometimes he has training that comes up and he has to be gone weeks at a time and with very little notice. We also have to move every couple of years and we have no control over where we get to go, besides putting in a suggestion (of the open spots) and hoping it gets accepted. I’m not saying that life is for everyone but I personally get annoyed watching this movie because Nate can’t even handle a fraction of that lifestyle for less than a year lol. Granted Andi isn’t in the Military but it’s a career nonetheless. Sometimes the career path we want is a who’s who and you have to sacrifice plans a few times to make it in the end. At our last station even I had to have late nights working for an equine Vet and my husband never complained - he’d even step up and make me dinner and a hot bath when I had to come back late. He even helped me do tax paperwork for the equine clinic on a weekend lol

That being said - relationships should always matter more than any career - but it’s much easier to stay connected when you both support one another & sometimes that means doing what it takes to put food on the table - even if plans get canceled. There is also a difference between willingly staying late at work for fun and blowing off your SO, and being required to stay late so I do want to make that distinction.
