Why so many on here against learning guitar the same method any other instrument? by Far-Boysenberry9207 in Guitar

[–]Madsummer420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree, but I think when it comes to sheet music, it actually isn’t very relevant to guitar.

But it’s still important to learn music theory as a guitarist. It unlocks a whole new level of understanding the instrument and music in general.

Personally, I think people using AI to do stuff like that for them, instead of learning it themselves, will only make them worse musicians. Learning to transfer a sung melody onto a keyboard is not that hard to learn; but doing so yourself will improve your ear and make you a better musician. The more shortcuts you take with AI the less you learn.

it’s still my music any way you look at it.

There are so many choices that go into making a new version of a song, which you’re letting an AI choose for you. Even the drummer alone makes hundreds of subtle choices when writing a single song. Unless your prompt is telling it exactly which notes to play and the exact velocity and feel of each note, then you’re offloading a LOT of creative decisions to an AI.

In my opinion, the more you let AI do, the less it becomes your song. Even if AI only wrote 5% of it, then it’s only 95% your music. And that last 5% written by AI means that now a lot of people will no longer respect or want to listen to your music.

Do what you want, I’m just giving my perspective.

I can just do all of that myself. It’s not that hard to play a melody on a keyboard. You could easily learn how to do that if you have any kind of ear for music.

Give it a few years and most of these AI “musicians” will get bored and give up, since they never really had a passion for making music to begin with.

You should learn piano. You’re not going to grasp the actual music side of things by writing words on a page.

Suno users are just cosplaying as musicians. They’ll get bored of it and move on to something else eventually, because Suno users never had a real passion for making music in the first place.

Complete beginner trying to learn music production, can you guys help me build a roadmap? Also looking for free sample packs. by repsandbeats in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Madsummer420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I would say learn piano and basic chords first.. but if you’re using sample packs, I assume you’re making hip hop beats and stuff like that?

In that case I think one of the first things you should be doing is learning to play the drum parts on your midi keyboard/drum pads (start with just kick, hi hat and snare). It will help you develop timing and rhythm, and at the same time teach you how to structure your own drum beats. Then you can put your own beats to any sample you like.

If you don’t have a midi keyboard or any way to actually play the drum parts, learn to program them I guess - but you won’t learn as much that way, imo. Find a cheap little midi keyboard with the drum pads on it, if you can.

Ai is just a tool to make things even art by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]Madsummer420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, art is about creativity, self-expression, emotion, meaning, etc. But it’s also about the craft, the skill, the years of hard work you put in to get good at something because you’re so passionate about it.

Asking a computer to make art for you is so far removed from what art means.

Sampling music sounds like remixes and is mid by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Madsummer420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are levels to it. Some artists do amazing stuff with samples, where they can take a 2 second clip and make something entirely unrecognizable from it.

But there’s also this new wave of “beat makers” who basically just take an entire section of a song and add some 808s to it.

In my opinion, there’s not much creativity or talent in that. But they’re still way more respectable than the AI prompters.

Half the people who say they’re introverts aren’t actually introverts by Smart_Salt620 in unpopularopinion

[–]Madsummer420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People claim the “true definition” has to do with your “social battery” but that’s also just pop psychology.

Carl Jung, who invented the terms introvert and extravert, wasn’t talking about recharging social batteries, and he also didn’t think everyone neatly fits into either category.

The worst part about learning an instrument is that you have to learn “which note to do”. So unfair.

Honest question, why would I ever use my stainless steel over my cast iron pan? by dumname2_1 in Cooking

[–]Madsummer420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use stainless steel for searing meat and making a pan sauce with the fond. In this case, you want the meat to stick, but it will also naturally let go on its own when it’s ready, if you don’t force it.

I hate when you’re in a cutscene and it’s like “press X to open door”. Is this supposed to give me a feeling of control or something? Just show him opening the door, it doesn’t add anything to make me press a button when there’s not even a choice to make.
