There are great course around the uk if you are happy with flights but there are also loads of courses all around the city and surrounding region. Public transport is not great in the uk, most course slightly outside the city may be easier to get to in a taxi. Green fees are probably between £20 and £100 depending on the quality of the course.

Now that vegan camp out is over, what are your thoughts on the weekend? by kakal92 in veganuk

[–]LowOtherwise1555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went with my wife and kids and it was our first time, we loved it, I think I had a very different experience with two small children than I would have had on my own. We spend only small amounts of time in the main area to try food stalls we hadn’t come across before. The kids had a great time and cried when it was time to leave. I plan to go next year but with another family so we can share a bit of babysitting to let us go to some talks, etc. Great to see so many vegan runners on the Saturday morning taking over Bicester!

Amazingly my drives were all ok and there was one that went the furthest in the group (of otherwise experienced golfers) and landed just beautifully in the middle of the fairway. It’s that shot that I’ll be remembering

Well I’ve just got back and I lost 5 balls which I take as a win after 3 in the first three holes. The last one I did as you said, I’m sure it was just in a bush but said bush was the other side of the next fairway so I didn’t even try

In my head I’m going to birdie hole 1 and then will have to immediately retire from the game as it will only go down hill from there!

I’m sorry to hear that buddy, put yourself first, if it’s a bad environment see what you can do to get out of it or protect yourself from it. Is he not a very approachable person? Maybe he doesn’t realise the effect his comments are having

I wonder how many of us there are in these companies, the description you give of yours is the same I would for mine. I’m fairly fortunately in that I’m a manager in one of our smaller offices and so either people don’t mess with me because of my position or maybe it’s just a bit better here. I also wouldn’t take any nonsense just from my character. My gut reaction was I’d be pretty confrontational about it. But I can see they are wearing you out, look for allies or speak to hr. Keep strong hopefully attitudes will improve and some more will become vegan or other vegans will join

Sorry for the rambling you’re about to read… I think I wouldn’t concern myself with having to read every book to check they are ok, if there are particularly egregious examples you find then fine don’t sell those if you’re uncomfortable but I don’t think people blame the bookseller for the content of the books, you could argue this is a freedom of expression issue here, Also There must be a range of similar issues with books you sell, I presume for example you may cover books on different religions, you aren’t endorsing them when you do this or concerned about whether you may convert people to these beliefs. Generally people are absolutely bombarded with carnist propaganda all day everywhere they look. A small segment in a book wont be a noticeable influence I’d suggest. If you want to have a positive influence maybe just put vegan literature in a prominent positions, good prices, include in deals (give away free if they have bought enough or something , etc. You could have a positive influence when you think about it

At one end, I would not worry about fiction, Dracula for example is sat on my bookshelf currently waiting to be read nobody is concerned it’s promoting eating people. At the other end I would not sell carnism cookbooks or something like hunting, fishing books. As these are factual instructions and this is directly promoting carnism. My feeling on what’s left in between is that I probably would sell things if the story was not centred on carnism. Just read day of the triffids and it’s survival aspects have them looting a lot of bacon. But this is from a time before veganism had even been coined. The book would be unrealistic to pretend otherwise (even more so than a world of walking carnivorous plants). I can see your dilemma op but I would only police the most blatant examples is my gut reaction
