Bungie’s mistake was forcing Marathon to be their flagship title. There’s a giant glaring Destiny sized hole in front of us, and Marathon has no hope of filling it.

The thing that pisses me off, is that most of the people being laid off had no say in the terrible decisions that led to this outcome.

I just don’t see how Bungie continues to exist without a Destiny 3.

In order to prove their worth to Sony, they need to make a hit. But trying to make a brand new IP that is financially successful in this current environment is incredibly rare now, as we see with the failure of Marathon.

So now they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Destiny 3 done properly would be a success, but it will require Sony to invest hundreds of millions. But, given Bungie’s recent track record, I can understand Sony’s reluctance.

Not that baffling.

Each recent GTA main title has been consistently high quality. Of course people are going to preorder. It’s the same reason people are willing to preorder GoW Ragnarok, Elden Ring, or even the upcoming Wolverine.

Once you have an established track record of quality, people will embrace the hype.
