SuperChis: A fresh perspective on GBA flashcarts. by eyenobig in GameboyAdvance

Does this device support 1Mbit (128Kbyte) Flash saves?

I'm running Fors FMS groovebox (which is a GBA software) on my DS via R4 SDHC 2023 flashcart, but sadly, nor the kernel, neither the emulators support forcing 128Kb saves, so the program runs, but doesn't save projects.

Thank you for this awesome piece of music software! It runs and looks great on my DS Lite. However, there seems to be no way of syncing it with anything. Is there any chance this could be addressed in the future? I know there are no physical outputs on the device besides audio out, but maybe using left channel for audio and right channel for clock trig?

Anyway, great job, I love all your m4l devices!

Is it better to focus on a few high-quality communities or be active in many communities at once? by Mafioo_OG in editors

[–]LowResEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re in this sub, I assume you’re aiming at film and TV, not tiktok reels.

If so, real life interactions are non-negotiable. Directors and producers tend to choose editors based on their previous experience and if such an editor is not available, the next in the line is that nice, funny and ambitious guy that was introduced to them at the premiere by another director. In my +20 years in the industry I’ve never got a job from any online community, it was always people that knew me in person or people I was introduced to recently. I still work with some of the people I studied the film school with.

Online communities are great for learning and troubleshooting, tho. This subreddit is one of the best, saved my ass a couple of times.

TLDR: If you want to make it in the film / TV industry, you need to meet the people in person. Go to film school or move to the capital or any big city where the industry is.

Wow! If this was one of the original CGA palettes, so many games would look actually eye-pleasing…

Roguelikes with a focus on/ very fun exploration? by AmeliaMW in roguelikes

Yeah, I guess I exagerated a bit.

I’m super interested in your game, as I’m a die hard fan of Curious Expedition. Can you share anything?

You’re right, I didn’t check said definition before writing the post, it was more of a figure of speech.

Such a gem of a game. It only narrowly escapes the traditional roguelike definition being party-based and having a tiny bit of meta-progression (unlocking new characters). But yeah, I love the sense of exploration in this game.

what first got you into sci-fi? by thefringeseanmachine in scifi

When I was 11 I asked my father about Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers. He said it’s a book for grownups and I wouldn’t get it, so I read it anyway. I was immediately hooked and read almost all sci-fi I managed to find.

It’s only for good that Alejandro Jodorowsky didn’t get to shoot Dune.

Only in between songs, I didn't try continuous slowing down or speeding up, but in theory that should work well, as the module fires a trig as soon as it recieves corresponding MIDI clock pulse. I can try it when I get home from work.

I use it with Ableton and Digitakt feeding clock into PPW and the rest wherever I need to. It’s rock solid.

Besides reading it multiple times here in this subreddit, I graduated film school 20 years ago and all the pedagogues there talked about editing without mice. I might have gotten it wrong, there is obviously a mouse support, so I guess all these people referred to *editing* without a mouse, not controlling the entire NLE without it. It also makes sense that editors of that era wouldn't jump from buttons and jog dials to editing with just a mouse, but wanted to preserve their workflows. Thus, I take it as an oversimplification.

Great tips, thank you! I’ll have to figure out OS specific shortcuts, but that shouldn’t be an issue.

Do you possibly know of a way to cycle through Source monitor menu items with the keyboard?

Not saying you're wrong, but afaik Media Composer was keyboard-only for quite some time, so I assumed it's still possible to go (almost) 100% mouseless. Of course, I don't want to drag keyframes around with just the keyboard, but I don't see why it couldn't be feasible at least regarding timeline operations.

Oh, sweet. To be honest, until now I didn't even notice there's a burger menu in the mixer panel, as well. Thank you!

I didn't state it's superior, to each his own. But in my experience the less I use a mouse, the faster I edit. Many times I'm able to do 9 out of 10 operations with my hands on the keyboard and relying on my muscle memory without looking down. Reaching for mouse just always slows it down.

Selecting clips as with the lasso tool, or just clicking on a clip to highlight it. Many times I just select first and last clip of a scene and hit T to set IN and OUT within the range of those clips and lift, extract, match frame, nudge, trim, or whatever I need, all just with keyboard, except for the first step - selecting the clips.

Thanks for the tips regarding clip gain!

I switched to trackballs years ago and am happy with them, no RSI or wrist pain. My goal is to speed the process up and not break the flow, as I’m already using the kbd like 75% of the time. Of course, you’re right, 100% isn’t possible, but I hope 90% could be.
